csteffl525 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 hey guys i just picked up my banshee a few weeks ago and need some help. when i went to trade the guy called and told me that it started to act up on him. he said that when you got into the powerband it would start to chatter. i thought this was the clutch sticking because of it being in a cold garage so i said to bring it down still. when i got it home i found out what he was talking about, but it was only in second gear. every other gear is very smooth and pulls hard. i also have a little trouble getting into neutral but thats no biggie. it has a barnett clutch in it and the heavy duty springs too. the clutch cable seems to be a little stretched out as well. i plan on putting lighter duty clutch springs in and a new clutch cable to see if this would help. i checked the oil and found no metal shavings in it at all. to get down to the question i wanted to know if some of you guys could help diagnose my problem..whether it being a bad second gear, a sticky clutch, the springs or the cable. camatv Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 if it chatters in only one gear the trans is shot probably need shift forks and possibly a few gears etc Quote
Jereme6655 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 neutral has always been hard to find on a banshee.....its just the nature of the beast on the stock trans. and you may want to think twice about using lighter duty springs in your clutch.....the banshees powerband will more than likely break your clutch loose if your runnin lighter springs than stock....especially if it has any power mods... csteffl525 Posted February 24, 2011 Author Report Posted February 24, 2011 if it chatters in only one gear the trans is shot probably need shift forks and possibly a few gears etc i was hoping it wasnt second gear because it just did it out of the blue, i figured since i could still put it into second gear and ride it wasnt bad. i thoght if it was second gear it wouldnt go in at all Quote

Larry's Shee Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I do believe that FAST carries the forks, bout 30 I think. Don't know price for 2nd gear. Quote
armyvet Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 shift forks control the gear position by the notches on the "drum".if they are wore out or bent then they will not always engage the gears completely.you could have a tooth broke or even a washer or shim missing if a incompetent yoyo was working on it previously.when you get something used who knows what youll find when you get into it.some guys cut corners to to get back in the trails while some guys fix trhings right.if he said it was "acting up" again i wouldnt have went ahead with the trade especially with tranny issues.hopefully its not nothing major. If you cant do the repair yourself a shop is gonna juice you for $75/hr labor.Banshees are pretty simple fortunately so grab a manual and git'er done Quote
sstaton1983 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 my wifes raptor done the same thing.it would rattle only in second gear. i split the case and the engagement dogs on the side of the gear was broke off and stripped the teeth off.but the older raptors had a week second gear anyways. so your first step is split the case and look for broken parts.your lucky its a banshee, they are the easiest motor i have ever split.
