What is currently done to your banshee? I would do the timing plate set at +4 first IMO. That was pretty much my first mod after pipes and filters. Quote

mysterion Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I would just modify the stock timing plate to +4. It doesn't cost anything, takes about 15 min and is fairly simple. Quote

Ya I seen that diy post, I. Thinking save money..maybe do that, and buy the reeds. Now if I do it myself, is just the same as buying a timing plate? Quote

SlowMoe Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) What type of riding do you do? IMO getting your head milled .030" will get you more power across the board than the reeds. So I'd say +4 mod and mill your head for a noticeable difference. Edited February 21, 2011 by SlowMoe Quote

SlowMoe Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I go to the dunes once or twice a year, then mostly trails or open fields...how much does it cost for a mill job? About 50 to 75 bucks. Typically reeds don't "give" you much more power if any unless you are pulling high rpm's like with a ported engine and you need more inlet area than the stock reeds/ cage can allow. Quote

I'm kinda new ...but is a mill job like boring out your jugs? Sorry for the dumb question, it's how I learn haha Quote
camatv Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 wow 2 stage reeds will make a noticeable increase in the low, mid, and top end of the motor.. the DIY timing mod is nice to do also and in all reality your probably not going to need more than +4 timing on gas. mostly the plates are needed if your going to need +7 to +12 on alky / gas motors Quote
jbooker82 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) You just mill (typically around 0.030) off the stock head. I would look at mull engineering for the mill job. He just doesnt deck .030 off the head. he aslo rechambers the head. His user name here on BHQ is blowit http://www.mullengineering.com/sc/store.php/products/yamaha-banshee-yfz-rz-head-mod-billet-cut-modify-machine-squish-dome-plug-heat-race-drag-online-modify-modification Edited February 23, 2011 by jbooker82 Quote
