edj3663 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 A kid from my auto tech class has a Banshee for sale and said it's blown up. He told me it was from putting 91 octane then a whole bottle of octane booster in one tank of gas. Not positive on this but shouldnt doing that not hurt anything unless he didnt compensate enough oil for the amount of octane in it? So what do you guys think is wrong with it? He wants 400 bucks for it and i'm thinkin about buying it to rebuild and have a good cheap bike. Also, he said the bottom end does turn over when you kick it. Thanks, Eric. Quote
bansheesrtoys Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) yes if he ran it llow on oil like you said he could have done damage. could just need a top end ,but there is a chance he could have hurt the crank too Edited February 15, 2011 by bansheesrtoys Quote

Thanks, Eric. octane booster is shit, so dont ever use it. it could have blown up due to a lean oil/gas ratio, if you are going to add booster, do it before you add pre mix, so when you do add premix its to the total amount of gas/booster. but just buy some good fuel, octane booster is nothing more than a dodgy "fix" 400 is pretty good man !! post some pix up. dunno what could be wrong, gota strip n see. Larry's Shee Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Unless the rest of the bike is totally junk , pick it up. Worst case senario a total new top and bottom end new $1000 +$400 for quad = running Banshee Could also be something jambed inside clutch cover. If you were 1000 miles closer I'd be begging you for his number if you didn't buy it . If you buy it get a Clymers manual before you even start tearing it apart! Quote
DallasGDub Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 400 bucks is good if it was nice and complete with no motor, so I would buy it. Quote
camatv Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 id but it tooo dang furr shuurrr Quote
armyvet Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 hell yeah for $400,i would take it,got too many toys now but whats 1 more?wife couldnt tell the difference anyhow..lol Quote
fastquad02blaster Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Probably ran the wrong premix ratio like stated above and didn't rejet it after mods or something like that. Could've gotten an air leak and didn't get fixed. I'd jump on it for $400. Absolutely cannot go wrong on that one. Quote
edj3663 Posted February 16, 2011 Author Report Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the info, very conclusive haha so what happens when you run too little oil? Will I need to pick up new jugs or even heads? Im hoping I can just hone or bore the cylinders and go with new pistons. Also, it doesnt have any mods on it and its an 03. Quote
dirtydownunder Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 you can do a leak down test on it now, to see if a seal is blown, or just strip it down and inspect the cylinders. Quote
rdzbangshee Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 more than a cap full of booster is all you need that crap is just stove oil bad crap must of got hot as hell and that heat crap is alcohal makes stuff rust Quote
