I had the same problem when I bought my new to me shee...turns out the dude I purchased from replaced the spark plugs but didn't gap them, just stuck them in straight from the box. (didn't notice when doing a spark test). After gapping I haven't had a problem.

what should the gap be

put the carbs back on with the tube in between and it fired right up

 

got the new kicker gear in works great now im working on the water pump seal and i think i may need a new inpeller it like pitted were it rides in the seal
