Shee leaks gas out of overflow tubes

Im entirely new to banshees, i jst picked her up about a week ago, finally took off my 12 inch itp rims with sandstars and put on my knobbies. went to start her up and she wouldnt go, then realised i had the gas off lol. ran her a little and rode her around the block. when i stopped and turned her off i noticed gas was seeping out of the overflow tubes. once i turned the gas off it stopped. i asked a couple of people what was the problem and i got all different answers:

1. you need to take bowls off and clean them out

2. you need something lik new neddles and something else, would cost are $64

3. the floats are adjusted too high

 

Im new to all this, dont knw a whole lot about motors, i was gonna take the carbs off and clean them if that was the problem. does anybody know what the problem is???

 

lastly it idles a bit too high, to fix that would i turn the air intake screws on the side of the carbs? if so, i have to make sure they get turned the same amount of notches or they will be out of sync right?

 

please get back to me if u can help out, the shop was gonna charge $225 to go through the carbs and + whatever i need to pay for parts :/

It sounds like it could be all of those things that you posted above. More than likely it is your needle and seat. On the needle, there is a little rubber "cone" that can get a groove worn in it over time, and it will no longer seal. i have a couple sets of stock carbs that dont leak i went to pwks ill give them to you for nothing the last four sets of stock carbs i tossed in the trash

Before jumping off the deep end, more than likely you have a stuck float. Sometimes you can resolve the issue by taking a screwdriver and firmly tapping the bowl with the handle.

 

If you just picked up the bike, I'd recommend pulling the carbs off and thoroughly cleaning them. You can check the float height to ensure it's where it needs to be. Put the carbs back together and see if the problem persists. You don't even have to remount the carbs, you can just hook a fuel line up to one or both and turn the fuel on, see if it starts leaking. If you do it that way, make sure you are holding the carbs upright.

 

A small piece of debris could be in your carb resting against the seat, keeping the float from going all the way up and causing the carbs to flood. I'd definitely try cleaning the carbs, inspecting, and measuring your floats first before switching carbs.

first things first, go get yourself a cylmers manual.... it as step by step directions on how to take your whole bike apart. Secondly as others has recommended... try cleaning the carbs and resetting the float height before you go spending money on new parts.

Ya i need to pick up the clymers manual, jst need to find a job lol. i turn 18 in 6 months and gotta start paying for stuff myself. ya i wanna try taking the carbs off and cleaning them out before i start buying parts that i may not need.

 

For the *idle, its the 2 screws and they hav to be turned equally right??? my dad got lucky, he has a pretty modified yfz 450 and i think his only has the one fuel adjustment screw :/

i tapped the scrrew handle on both, now the gas is only leaking out of the right carb, not the carb with the choke lever.

now i guess i should jst take off the other carb and clean?

 

* but now it also looks lik gas is seeping out even when i have the gas off???

i knw this is a minor problem but its pissing me off lol

Clean them both to ensure there is no dirt in either of them

mine does the same thing... i pulled the carbs off cleaned them up nicely, put in new needle valves and now it pours gas out instead of drips....

i have no idea how to adjust the floats, but they arent stuck thats for sure...

 

hard to sell a bike with the carbs leaking gas.... ugh

I actually had the same problem with my first shee. All I did was open up the carbs, clean them up real good. Now there no leaking at all.

This post is old as fuck. Set your float height correctly and clean the float needle and seat. Make sure you don't need new needles.
