No way a 28mm can be opened up to 48mm. You would have no carb left! If you are measuring the bell side of the carb, that's not the right side of the carb to measure. You want to measure the engine side of the carb, inside diameter.
LONGROD
yes that is what I measured. i wasn't sure. the engine side does not appear to be modified. why would someone open the back side and not the front

jbooker82
yes that is what I measured. i wasn't sure. the engine side does not appear to be modified. why would someone open the back side and not the front Because the back side is the throat of the carburetor. It is where the restriction is. What good would the front (air box) side of a carb the size of a pie tin be if the throat is only 28mm? When measureing carbs you measure the back side (motor). 28mm carb has a 28mm throat.

I think your missing something.. I know where to measure a carb.. my question is why would someone do this, ( make air filter side bigger ) like someone has done.. it didn't make seance to me.. so I asked wondering if there is something that maybe I didn't know. Your terminology is wrong, that's where the confusion is. You're calling the front of the carb, the back. Maybe the person who did it was thinking they could get more air through the carb by doing that, I don't know. Never seen it done before, but a pic of what you're looking at would be nice

rocz
ya your right.. why do they call the part of the carb that faces the front of the machine the back ? I will post pics today. Because air is pulled through the front of the the carb and comes out the back into the motor
