SuprSlow50 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Well first off I am new to the HQ, but I am not new to Banshees. I had my first Banshee when I was 13 and instantly began modifying it with T5's, twin K&N air filters, and a 15 tooth front sprocket. I am looking to get another Banshee but I have never bought with a lot of work done to it, or one that runs on alcohol, so that is why I am here to ask you guys what you think about the price, the mods (vitos crank and porting...etc) and any potential problems I may run into with a build like this. I really appreciate any and all input you guys have! Thanks UP FOR SALE IS A 2002 YAMAHA BANSHEE WITH A 420cc STROKER MOTOR WITH UNREAL POWER. dirtydownunder Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 its on alky, you would have to swap it over to gas if you want decent fuel economy. you can sell the carbs or find some methanol for the time being, but wouldnt you rather buy and ride ? what suspension does it have ? and what does it look like ? SuprSlow50 Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 here is the link, it looks like it's in pretty good condition... http://www.racingjunk.com/category/3608/Banshee/post/2042744/2002-yamaha-banshee-420cc-stroker.html also from the pic, it looks like a stock rear shock so I would assume that it has stock front shocks under the covers... I dont mind the fact that its going to burn twice as much fuel as if it ran on gas, but where can you get alky? is it the same as e85 or would I have to get it by the drum from a fuel supplier? I already have an unopened 54 gal drum of c-16 (116octane) for the racecar, which is gone now, so switching to race fuel is always an option. Is there any problems with running alky, like is it harder to tune or not good to ride when its cold out? I am familiar with blown alcohol injected big blocks but they were always drag cars running for less than prolly 20 seconds total with burnout and 1/4mi blast, and I have never been around quads on alky. Larry's Shee Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 First clue is the boost bottle . Draw back to alky is having to purge the system after running. Doesn't seem to look to bad . Check it out closely and do a comp test on it , don't know acceptable range for alky motor . Changing back to fuel will at least involve new domes and re-jet , maybe different carbs. Check out his other add for a different 'shee ,all stock. Quote
rubberneck Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Never heard of 42mm keihns. The other thing is the alky. you are going to run through fuel like a mad man. Banshees suck the fuel when on gas. In order to switch back to gas from alky, you will need new carbs once converted, keihns cant go back. Quote
SuprSlow50 Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 Yeah, I know I that Keihns cant be converted back to gas, but most Mukuni's can be. I also did a quick look for 42mm, but the biggest I found was 38-41mm depending on if it is a PE, PWK, PJ. What is involved in purging the alky motor? Do you have to drain the tank and then run gas through the motor or can you leave the alky in the tank and then just run gas through the motor? Is anyone on here running a stroker Banshee on alky on the trails or at the Badlands in Indiana?? Thanks for all the replies guys, I appreciate it. Quote
SuprSlow50 Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 What do you think about the price and the Vito's setup? I have heard a few good things but more bad things about the Vito's stuff....Anyone in here have any experience with their products? Quote
Jereme6655 Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 there are some people that do actually run purge tanks on their bikes (small fuel cell with gas/oil mix) with a seperate valve to purge the alky out of the bike before shut-down Quote
bansheesrtoys Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 i have a +4 crank from them and like it. it has great power,i'm going on season 3 with it . I'm always in powerband when i ride and its holding up. Oh yeah and i ride at badlands. but i have stock carbs on mine. and even with stock carbs and porting it was a big jump in power from a stock storke crank. Quote

You think that shee is worth the 2900, even if I do decide to convert it to gas? I dont know what cc the domes are but I dont think it could have high enough compression that it couldnt be run on straight 116octane (C-16). I have used that stuff on a 16:1 sbf spraying 800+hp woth of nitrous with no problems to date. Quote
SuprSlow50 Posted December 6, 2010 Author Report Posted December 6, 2010 so no opinions on the price? is 2900 a good deal for all the mods? I am not too concerned with it being a fuel pig or having to purge it after every ride, just want to know what a Banshee with this level of mods is going for? I haven't seen many for sale setup like this. Quote
bansheesrtoys Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 it depends on how much he rode it on the rebuild? how it looks? but i still would only pay about $2500 -2600.jmo. Quote

SuprSlow50 Posted December 7, 2010 Author Report Posted December 7, 2010 it depends on how much he rode it on the rebuild? how it looks? but i still would only pay about $2500 -2600.jmo. He said it was finished this year with not very much time on it. I was thinking about offering $2400-2500 depending on how it looks if I make the trip out there, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him about getting some more details on it. Are there any other things about running alky besides it sucking about twice as much fuel, making more power, and having to purge it after every ride? If I got this I would prolly do a little trail riding and go to the badlands. Thanks again Quote
Larry's Shee Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Don't know about running in cold (32-) . Plus would think you would't want to leave in tank for long periods because it would absorb moisture . JMO,. Quote
