97 vs 03 banshee

So hey guys im new, i currently own a raptor but have the option to get a banshee at a fairly good price. So heres the dilemma, I can get a 1997 banshee that runs ported jetted 1200 or I can buy a 2003 banshee that has a bad crank for 1500. Im not too familiar with banshees sooo which one would you guys buy? what are the pros and cons between the two years? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ide get the '97 if it was in good shape, check out the frame for bends or cranks do a compression test on it. Just check it out real good. About the only difference between them is the '03 has a brake light, with the crank being bad you will probably have to rebuild the top end also. Hope that helps. Good luck and welcome to BHQ

I would get wich ever one is in better shape. Ported banshee will be way faster than the non ported one. The non ported one can be ported to suit your riding style and pipe setup.

 

Or the 97 becaus it just has a tail light, and not a brake/tail light.

Unless the 03 is really nice with lots of extras it's not worth 1500. Fixxer-uppers ALWAYS cost more than you first think. Been there , done that . You also have no way of testing anything else on it. JMHO , your results may vary.

True ..i got a raptor non running and it ended up costing more than i thought to get up and going. I think im going with the 97 bshe, From the pics it looks clean and it runs so hopefully all i have to do is add ons. What are the first mods to do? On my rappy i jetted, got new exhaust and airfilter. Is it basically the same for a banshee? This will be my first two stroke so any dos and donts will be helpful. Thanks guys!

yea if u get the ported 97 u are all set wont need any mods it already has them and it runs so much better deal
