Just bought a 95 Banshee and I was told it's been bored .040 0ver and has Namura Piston installed. What is your thoughts on these pistons? I have been thinking about buying a Wiseco pro lite kit to replace. I was told the engine was rebuilt in Feb and has next to no ride time on new engine. Any insight on this would be very helpful.

I wouldn't change them becuase those are two different style of pistons and the clearances will be different. I have run the namura pistons in my blaster with good luck.

So in other words is I change to a Wiseco or even a Vito's super stock pistons I might as well bore to the next size?

if they are in great shape you might be able to have them honed to fit those pistons. get the specs on them and see how close they are if the wiseco has larger clearances then a hone may fix you up

How are Vito's superstock pistons vs's Wiseco's pro lite pistons?

One more quick question. My engine was rebuilt in Feb and guessing around 5-10 hours (if that) on the engine. I recently found a leaky head gasket and bought a Vito's topend gasket kit. If I pull the cylinders off to replace the base gasket will I need to buy new rings for my pistons or can they be reused? Cylinder walls and piston skirt look very fresh still.

your rings will be fine reuse them

i dont get how you would lose compression your just taking the head off. no you would not lose compression by taking the head off.

Go back and read my post again. I'm talking about reusing the rings my piston rings after I replace my base gasket. I'm fully aware I wouldn't lose compression from replacing a head gasket.

I am not sure about the Banshee pistons, but amog the RD350/400 crowd they have a bad name. A lot of the RD350 guys use banshee pistons so I would assume they are the same ones. In case you don't know...the RD350 and RD400 are Yamaha street bikes with the air cooled predecessor to the banshee engine.

I remember reading a bunch of posts over the last 4 or so years relating to Namura piston failures. Also......IIRK they are made in Taiwan.

Should I hone the cylinder or just leave it be. Will I lose any compression reusing the rings?

don't hone it just put it back together it will be fine. the guys having problems with the namura pistons were building high horsepower engines. the namura pistons are made like the stock ones and should be fine in your case.

Opening a can of worms asking about pistons here!

Most of these guys use the wisecos because of good luck with huge numbers, vitos are great pistons as well, namuras claim to have molybdenum coatings etc.... to help with friction, but dollar for dollar stick with the tried tested and true product when its time to rebuild.

From reading up on this forum Vito's pistons are Wiseco just with the intake ports opened up. Like I said I bought my shee with the Namura pistons already installed. If I was to have built this engine I would have bought Vito's or wiseco pro lites. To be honest im kinda scared to run the these pistons now. I have a brand new crank and rods and I would hate to screw them up because of cheap pistons.

Anyone have a set of Wiseco or vito pistons they wanna sale? The top of my pistons say 0.75 so I'm guessing that is how much it has been bored over correct? Stock bore is 64mm so where would I be at with 0.75 over?
