dicedealer702 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 This is a small chip in my left piston. Dose any one know what might cause this? Should I worry about this? Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 What pistons are those and how long have they been in / ran? Looks more like a crack starting and a chip. If i seen that in any of my motors, i would take them out right then and there and they would become an ash tray on the bench, just a matter of time before the skirt will break apart and reak havoc to the cyl walls /crank ect ect. Most times it's because the piston to cylinder clearance was too great. When the piston is allowed to rattle in the cylinder bore, it develops stress cracks and eventually shatters. Could have sucked in foreign debris also. Or even could have caught on the intake port right there if they weren't chamfering properly. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Yep , tear that beech down . Right now you only need a piston. Let us know what you find. Quote

lilmegill727 Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 your lucky you did. same thing happened to my cousins shee, but we didnt catch it quick enough. piece of piston skirt broke, went down in the cases, and wrecked the crank, well at least the bearings from what we know so far. Quote
