Sandfrk33 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 Anyone ever tried to make one of these out of the stock cover? I was thinking about trying it and was checking for any input. If you've tried it, let me know. Doesn't seem like too big of a deal. Only thing I'm concerned about is clearance for the impeller. Quote
shakar Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 ive thought of that also , why pay 35 duckets for somthing u allready have on the bike.... minus a hole, thinking maybe drill , tap , short screw and copper washer bada bing .............. maybe a lil more but sounds good Quote
mofoka Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 yeah, it looks like all you would need to do is weld a slag near the bottom to add some material, the grind/file it flat, then drill, and tap. I guess you would need a screw/bolt with a short shaft too. I don't have a welder so I just bought mine... Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 I was thinking about welding a nut to the cover for the extra material and then drill/tap the cover to match. If I get a chance this week, I'll give it a try. Hopefully pics to follow. Might be more work than a $30.00 cover is worth. Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 That was a lot easier than I expected. I didn't have to weld any material onto the cover. I used a stock clutch cover bolt, fine thread 6 mil, and I got 4 or 5 threads in the cover. More than enough. After I drilled and tapped it, I threaded the bolt through and cut it off with a hack saw. Smoothed it out on the grinder. Quick trip to the store tomorrow for a copper washer and I'm done. Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted June 1, 2010 Author Report Posted June 1, 2010 If anyone else does this with the clutch cover bolt, the tap was 6 mil x 1.0 Quote
madjimmax Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Just be careful with that just being tapped. Theres not a lot of threads holding it I think I would of for sure welded something inside. Quote
Fullthrottle02 Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 looks good, hope it holds up bud. Im with madjimmax, i think i would have added some material. Those cover screws are pretty soft too, an allen may work better as well. just my .02 Quote

If you want to add thickness to the cover you will have to add it to the outside of the cover. Quote
shakar Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) looks good ........... i have a pd cover and there really isnt much material added to them . im thinking ur good to go maybe put some thread lock on there jus for a lil x tra hold . u could jb weld a thin washer to the front and drill/tap to add a lil more .eather way let us no how she works??? mofoka Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 I guess if you use some locktight to make sure it doesn't back out and not to over tighten. All in all it looks good Quote
