Rebuilding after re-doing top end and installing shift star. Problem is that everything is tight, but when the clutch lever is not pulled in there is still some play with the disks. I don't remember if this was like this the last time i did the new basket? There is more play when the lever is pulled in, but thought there would be none when the lever is out as in dis-engaged. Is this how it is supposed to be? Need some help don't want to miss another riding season.

Make sure you have the proper amount of clutch plates, the pressure plate is seated in the grooves completely and be sure you didn't take too much slack out of the cable not allowing it to engage completely. best I can help hope it helps

and also, I think you can adjust the bolt/lock nut in the middle of the pressure plate to fix that sometimes

pressure plate is prolly turned wrong like victor said. try pulling the pressure plate back off and turning it one hole and see if that helps.

If any of the above fails take the clutch assy, hub etc and basket off and make sure you have everything turned right so each seats completely as you reassemble and make sure the washer's centered.

You probably put one of the machined washers in the wrong spot or left one out.The stack from the case bearing should be machined washer/clutch bearing race/machined washer/clutch hub/locking washer/clutch nut.

There are arrows on the pressure plate and clutch inner hub that must be properly aligned.
