rate now in the wanted section i have a post looking for a adjustable timming plat no cast junk, anyways have a few questions, if I advance my timming will it take away from my bottom end power? will this help me even though I trail ride, can you advance your timming with a stock head or do you have to run smaller domes? and in order to run a cool head with smaller domes do you have to advance your timming? I have a trail port and wesco pistons, stock head and was wondering whats the best advance +4? will this hurt my motor at all, and am I on the edge with +4 or is +4 just fine for my mods, I'm looking for more reliable power. thanks, Matt

+4 is fine. cast and billet are both fine. they have no stress on them and wont be seen so theres no reason to pay $70 for a billet prodesign. and it will actually help out in the lower rpm's not take away from it.

I have just heard bad things in the long run about cast, and dont want problems in the middle of no wear. well see if I get any bits... if not i'll check out the cast ones

Advancing your timing will improve your BOTTOM end. It is possible to hurt your topend overrev if you go too far. You can do either a head mod or a timing mod without the other. I would recomend the Chariot head set to +4.

will timing effect jetting?

Usually not, but it will affect the octane requirements of the engine.

what do you mean? I run 93oct pump gas, will I have to add race gas with +4 timing, because I want to just stay on pump gas,

93 with +4 is just fine. Play with your timing a bit, you may find out that it likes less or more than +4.

how will I know to retard or advance? my mods are, trail port, fmf golds, pods, and then stuff I dont think matters like oversized radiator and high flow impeller along with inline cooler.

I have a cut and chambered head, mild dune port, ported reed cages with Boyesen reeds on them and my carbs are bored to 28mm. With this setup it would run fine on 93 octane. Then when I advanced my timing to +4, I had to start mixing 2 gallons of 108 or 110 octane race gas with 3 gallons of 93 pumpgas. I knew this going in, that is why I went ahead and bumped the timing, because my wife's Blaster would not run on pump gas and I was having to buy it for that bike so why not put it in my Banshee also?

whats your compression bansheesandrider? On a mild build its not uncommon to run plus 4 and not have any problems with 93, now if you start milling your head then you may have to reconsider a better fuel grade.

also been running cast plates for years and never had any problems, sure the chariot is nice and if you have the cash its a nice piece, but both are going to accomplish the same thing!
