EVILWAYS Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I bought my 2003 Banshee used...about 2 years ago...Since then I have put about 30hrs of trail riding in...and about 8 hrs of sand riding in...I pulled the plugs off and they were covered in oil...my mix ratio is 32:1...Now I am seeing a lot of oil from the back of my exhaust pipes....This is my first rebuild I have ever had to do..I hear you can do a compression test to find out...but is there another way? I still have power in 1st gear on a straight away but have a hard time getting in to my power band...when Im in 2nd or 3rd.......Couldn't climb a dune in Glamis last week without the motor dying down...Also If i have to rebuild the top end...what else can I do to gain more horse power? port and polish? want to get as much power that I can without having to run Hight Octane racing fuel...that stuff is expensive...O and I almost forgot..Im having a hard time starting the bike now....Could it be a spark problem instead? Thanks for your Input guys. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 From the sound of it your top end is done, do a comp. check. If it below about 110 maybe 105 then it is time for a top end. Quote
Burt Reynolds Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Go buy like a 20 dollar compression tester at autozone or advance or something. When you kick it over to test psi hold the throttle at WOT,just keep kicking until the psi goes as hi as you can get it,i usualy kick mine over like 20-25 times. If your cylinders are under 100 psi or the difference between the 2 is more than 10 psi your top end is smoked. Another quick way to see if one jug is toast, start the bike and rev it and hold your hand in front of each silencer outlet,if one side puts out way more pressure then one side is toasted Dont just go rebuilding before you check it out thoroughly. Thanks for your Input guys. Dont go assuming that you need a top end already, the filters just may be dirty, and or you may need to do some fine tuning on your carbs. Get a compression tester, new plugs, pull the carbs apart, and clean the filters, also replace fuel filter if your running one and it needs it. Cody Quote

Cody Changed the Plugs before I went to Glamis and i have only put about 6 hrs on with my new K&N air filters....I dont think its the carbs bc it has a good idle and a quick rev when I snap the throtle...Im going with the compression test...Thanks for your help Quote
