sup guys??!

finally got my shee running after a couple of long months and a top end rebuild she finally purrs... oh well actually she fucking roars!

so heres what i ended up with, got rid of the lectrons, went with stock carbs w/ tors elimnator and idle screws, k&n cone filter W/ modified airbox lid... got my self another pro design cool head, with 20cc domes... and bored the jugs to 65mm with a wsm top end kit w/ cometic gasket kit... cleaned up the porting, now i'm at a light trail port... still have my vf3 reeds and BOOST BOTTLE! i'm running t5 pipes and silencers and a mix of about 40:1 with 93 oct and benoil premix oil.

so a little about initial start up, we got the bike together, i went and got a bottle of klotz benoil and threw some gas in it. bike started with in the first 2 kicks i let run idle a bit and then took it down the block slowly. got it back and retorqued all the head bolts and the jugs to 25lbs. then took it out again and let it open up a little bit at a time, this time i let it get warm enough to the point i could feel the pipes on my leg hairs. got it back in and took out the plugs and they where soaked and black, but i'm guessing thats from the oil we used to lube all the parts for initial start up. bike ran ok, i can feel its a little rough on the bottom and for 1 reason or another my right side pipe smokes a little more than my left, its a blue smoke and its just enough were u can see it at about 1/2 throttle... not a fumigating smoke, just enough so u noe its there.

i took the bike to a buddy of mines that works on dirtbikes, he doesnt really mess with banshees but he works on 2 and 4 stroke mx bikes so he has some knowledge of what he's doing... he told me the bike is running rich but everything sound good just need to mess with the needle clip and pilot.

i'm running cool head w/ 20cc domes, vf3 reeds, stock carbs with 320 mains, and 25 pilots... needle clip in stock position and a/s 2.5 out, elev. is basically sea level (miami, fl) avg. temp is about 75* F and i'm running 40:1 premix with 93 oct gas.

wut do u guys recommend?

its possible that your crank seal is leaking just enough to make the one side smoke more. or it could be that you put more oil in the right bank during the build and it spit it all into the right pipe and is still burning ride it around for a lil bit and get her pipes good and hot it can take a while somtimes cause the oil will get into the packing in the silencers and saturate them

The oil could be residue in the pipe, but I agree with RadarRacing make sure your carbs are snyced. This is usually the main cause for one side smoking more than the other. As far as your jetting goes, I would change the plugs and do a WOT plug chop. My guess with your mods at sea level would be 27.5 or 30 on your pilots, and 300, 310 on your mains. If the plugs are still black and oily. drop down one size at a time and try again. When the plugs are light brown to tan it's jetted correctly. (black and oily = rich, white=lean, light brown/tan= good)

Smokin- the crank seal is a possibility, it might just be starting to go althought everyone I've spoken to has told me that when the seal usually goes bad u can really tell cus it almost always smoke a lot from the start...

Radar- u are also correct buddy, the guy that I mentioned earlier that works on 2 stroke actually has the guage that plugs up to the intake boots and tells u if the carbs are synced, were going to do it hopefully today or tomorrow... And the oil in the packing can be a possibility also cus I made sure I used enough oil to lube up the rotating assembly, only thing is I'm kinda afraid to ride it with out knowing exactly where the jetting is...

Fatbanshee- that's exactly my guess, 310 main, 27.5 pilots, needle clip 1 leaner and hopefully air screw 1.5~

I just wanted to make sure... I kinda wanna be the guy that tunes around my area so I've been reading the tuning threads a lot trying to jam pack my self with knowledge.

Just a quick suggestion. I recently spent some time on my banshee getting things ready for the winter ice poker runs. I took off the carbs then proceeded to taking them apart to clean, inspect and rejet etc... To make a long story short, once the carbs were rockin', I inserted the carb slides in the wrong carbs even after having them to their own respective side of the frame. Changing the slides (in my case) made the one side more dominant in keeping the engine running. I had twice the smoke out my exhaust. I run AMS oil which I'm convinced runs clean. Well in a matter of running it for the fairly short period, I had soot coming out my LHS head pipe. It was that bad. I just about started to tamper with all the air screws and the idles and just sat and thought for a sec. No way it was running this f*ed up! I got the idea of swapping slides. For some reason, if mine are in the wrong side, she runs like a piece of shit.

Here's what you should do if you do have the stock carbs. Grab a flashlight, then hold your throttle wide open and look at the slide portion of the RHS carb (of course the engine is off) You'll see the WOT slide eye makes its way centered to this sight glass. If you don't see this eye line up, then swap the carb slides. The slides only install in one position, however the eyes are at different circumference positions relating to how the slides install into the carb (because of the small brass pins in the slide bore). Otherwise, you'll be chasing your tail. As soon as I figured this out, the banshee started up and after burning the excess oil from the LHS cases, I had the idles and air screws symmetric and she was running like she does!

Hope this helps you!

I have my banshee studded with 858 Gold racing studs. I went to the river and followed a few of the creeks that just keep going seems like forever and met up with 3 guys on ski-doos. The most modern machine looked like a 97 Ski-doo 670 HO. We had enough snow to ride a sled but yet enough to pull wheelies with studs in the banshee too! Anyhow, they took off first ahead of me and I followed for a bit and said to myself " you have to be kidding me!" I put her to the bar on all the bends - hard lefts and rights and totally lost them. The sleds can't turn on these creeks worth shit! On the straights I spanked the 440 and the two guys riding double on a 500. I was nearly on the 670 HO on the straights! Anyhow we have a poker run this Saturday so I'm going to put some miles on with the boys!

Good luck with the carb!

carb slides are in the correct way... i was just double checking what u guys thought would be good jetting for my situation... i already ordered 310 mains, 27.5 pilots the rest is just tuning the air screw and the needle. hopefully i'll get it right and if not, theres always the g'd old HQ!

thanks guys!
