Just a quick suggestion. I recently spent some time on my banshee getting things ready for the winter ice poker runs. I took off the carbs then proceeded to taking them apart to clean, inspect and rejet etc... To make a long story short, once the carbs were rockin', I inserted the carb slides in the wrong carbs even after having them to their own respective side of the frame. Changing the slides (in my case) made the one side more dominant in keeping the engine running. I had twice the smoke out my exhaust. I run AMS oil which I'm convinced runs clean. Well in a matter of running it for the fairly short period, I had soot coming out my LHS head pipe. It was that bad. I just about started to tamper with all the air screws and the idles and just sat and thought for a sec. No way it was running this f*ed up! I got the idea of swapping slides. For some reason, if mine are in the wrong side, she runs like a piece of shit.
Here's what you should do if you do have the stock carbs. Grab a flashlight, then hold your throttle wide open and look at the slide portion of the RHS carb (of course the engine is off) You'll see the WOT slide eye makes its way centered to this sight glass. If you don't see this eye line up, then swap the carb slides. The slides only install in one position, however the eyes are at different circumference positions relating to how the slides install into the carb (because of the small brass pins in the slide bore). Otherwise, you'll be chasing your tail. As soon as I figured this out, the banshee started up and after burning the excess oil from the LHS cases, I had the idles and air screws symmetric and she was running like she does!
Hope this helps you!
I have my banshee studded with 858 Gold racing studs. I went to the river and followed a few of the creeks that just keep going seems like forever and met up with 3 guys on ski-doos. The most modern machine looked like a 97 Ski-doo 670 HO. We had enough snow to ride a sled but yet enough to pull wheelies with studs in the banshee too! Anyhow, they took off first ahead of me and I followed for a bit and said to myself " you have to be kidding me!" I put her to the bar on all the bends - hard lefts and rights and totally lost them. The sleds can't turn on these creeks worth shit! On the straights I spanked the 440 and the two guys riding double on a 500. I was nearly on the 670 HO on the straights! Anyhow we have a poker run this Saturday so I'm going to put some miles on with the boys!
Good luck with the carb!
