Thanks Guys. Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 A buddy of mine told me to do away with the stock yamaha setup and buy a setup that just screws on with out all of the headache stuff. I really dont know how to describe it but were the throttle cable comes into the carb, there is a huge peice that is attached to the main carb, buddy said to change it out and put just the regular screw caps on, DOES ANY ONE KNOW WERE I CAN GET THESE. Thanks Guys. Those pieces on top of the carbs are called T.O.R.S. Probably 90% of us run what's called a "TORS eliminator kit". Do a search on Ebay for the kit or check with one of our site sponsors. Someone else will probably chime in, but it's not as simple as "swapping" the carb tops and cable. It requires drilling and tapping a an idle screw into each carb, as well as disconnecting quite a few electrical components. Hopefully someone has the link with the step by step instructions. Kit's usually run from 40-50 bucks. If you're not having any problems right now, there's really no benefit from eliminating the TORS other than it cleans up the top of the motor, and makes it much easier to change jets. Quote
rubberneck Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 If you are half way competent with tools and can remove the carbs, it is not that big of a deal to do. You have to drill out a hole on the side of the carbs and tab it to accept the new idle adjustment screw. It takes just a few minutes per carb once you have them off the bike and stripped down. It cleans up the area making it look better, is more reliable because the damn TORS tend to cause problems, and the added weight of the tors is hard on the intake boots which can lead to cracks. cousinsracing Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) its really not that bad you just gotta have the balls to drill into your carbs lol make sure you disconnect all the electrical crap for the tors including the little black box on the front of your frame next to the cpi I bought my kit on ebay around $60 if i remember. make sure you get the kit with the caps, new throttle cable, idle screws, drill but, and tap Edited January 15, 2010 by cousinsracing Quote

Thanks to all That is the right kit as long as you still have a thumb throttle. If you have switched to a twist throttle it will use a different cable. You will also need this idle screw kit as well http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270514455100. The first kit replaces the tops of the carbs and the cable, the second one gives you a way to adjust your idle once the TORS are removed. Quote
