gmctruck1976 Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Hello guys. having some wierd issues with my clutch. seams to be slipping in the lower gears. I thought it was just bad clutches but still seams to be slipping after installing new ones and changing the springs to heavy duty. This thing cant be all that bad. It is a 4mm stroker motor with 68mm cylinders. single 35 mm carb with fmf fatty pipes. I am in the middle of breaking it in. It pulls like crazy once the damb clutches finally engage. I have had the damb side case off so many times now adjusting internal parts to the clutch. This is driving me crazy I now this thing is ajusted perfect it may even be a bit tight. why would it still be slipping. Its not as bad babying it I didnt too much even notice it till i started getting on it a little more. Thats when I changed the clutches but it is still doing it. Its more like it just dont want to hold when getting into the power. wtf do you all have any suggestions Quote
bebetekbanshee358 Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 well all i can trhink of is checking the basket.. Quote
canyncarvr Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 For a basket to cause slipping problems it would have to be hammered pretty bad..hanging up the friction plates from returning to a compressed pack. Roll it backwards, hit the brakes..that would knock them loose. Until you used the clutch next time. What transmission oil do you use? Nothing 'SJ', right? And/or..nothing noted as 'energy conserving'? When you replaced the plates..you soaked them in the correct oil before install? Quote
firebanshee Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 You could need a new pressure plate. I had a problem like that and i even run a lockup clutch, i found that the pressure plate was worn so it wasn't getting the proper clamping force on the clutch plates. Quote
AKheathen Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 well, for starters, "a little tight" is a bad thing and not let them engauge completely and/or weld the ball. you want it loose enough to just release them as much as you need. it will "tighten up" as the plates wear. as for the slipping only in lower gears, that is generally not how it works when it slips. normally, it is in lower rpms and higher gears that it is the worst, due to the decreased leverage to the output, giving it more load. geartrain, however, is just like that. do you notice any poping or shuttering feeling when it happens? how is the sproket hub fit on the axle? i had mine worn to the point of slipping over the splines in the lower gears, but holding fine at higher speeds.... shanYE west Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 I'd try readjusting it.. but do not use the arrows.. With some aftermarket clutches the arrows will not line up and be properly adjusted. First make sure you ball and rod isn't welded.. Put your clutch back together.. and when you adjust it.. Turn the screw in until it just touches.. then back it out 1/16 - 1/8 turn. Quote
GNR101 Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 1 thing alot of ppl dont look at is the clutch INNER hub check your pressure plate ,inner hub and and basket for signs of wear. ur bike is far from stock power. so any wear is x10 to a stock 34hp banshee with power u need all your parts to be good and the setting up of the parts to be better. set everything up by the "BIBLE" the banshee manual Quote

It happened to me, the clutch seemed to be slipping so I got a new clutch with hd springs. They were 100% stiffer than stock. I could barely pull in the lever and it still slipped. I checked the pressure plates for signs of wear did not seem to have any but I did replace them and it was instantly fixed. I am assuming they must have been warped. I got them from jeff at fast it was like $54 for both of them. Quote
