I have not changed my reeds for a long time. They look good the bike starts easy and runs good for the mods I have done. Do new reeds make that big of a difference and how do you choose which are best for your type of riding. Everyone mentions vforce 2's or 3's are they the best or is this a seat of the pants feel people are talking about or dyno numbers that prove this out. I have a hard time spending a couple hunderd for reeds not knowing the real truth.

make sure they are not cracked and are seating properly.You can get some Boyosons and save some dough,with the same results I'm sure.The V-F 3's are supposed to be really good because of the snap together design.Not sure of the performance gains on any of them.

I put V-Force 3's on my 2006 and it made a pretty good difference from one day of riding, to the next day with reeds and jetting properly. I'm no expert but I dont think you go wrong with them!

 

I've heard lots of guys on here replace just the reeds not the full cage, mite wanna check into that too.

if you gain 2-3 hp from them for a couple hundred bucks, youre doing pretty good. aside from pipes, porting or a set of aftermarket cylinders, the HP gains are minimal and cost you a lot more.

its not so much trying to gain hp when changing over to vforce reeds its the throttle response. You get a crisper throttle response off the bottom through the mid. They are def a good investment and i would def get some if you dont have them.

well, what setup do you have.....it's not about making big jumps in hp, but where it works the best in the rpm range.......the vforce works great with a mid to high rpm setup, but the boysens and chariot setups work best in the low-mid setups. there is also a selection of pedals that are the same way. both the vforce and chariot put out pretty good, and better than stock on all rpms, it's just where you are setup that defines what will work better...

Thanks for the information. I understand the HP to money ratio but do the really provide the actual claims of HP?

I'm not trying to squeeze every bit of power out of it

I ride trails and the drag race with friends not real competition. I just like a good dependable motor that runs good. I have stock stroke clean up port job ( not a real port job) cool head 20cc domes Pro circuit pipes and 2 into1 carb air box with plenty of screened openings in the lid.

I'm putting togather another motor and have a set of reeds but consider buying new set for the fresh motor. The old ones look fine and ran fine before I took it apart it started easy and ran ok. The transmission had problems was the reason for taking it apart.

well, if you are going to keep the similar setups, then i would definately suggest the chariot cages which come with boysen reeds, or if you really don't wanna shell out the money for them, you can buy the boysen pro or power reeds by themselfs. i would suggest the pro reeds with the carbon fibre pedals and stiffer main pedals, since you do a bit of play drag. they have a little crisper response, but the other ones have a little better and smoother off-idle....
