ok...

A. I didnt answer your question right away because i thought it was inapropriate, and frankly, none of your business.

B. I would never ban anyone just for pissing me off, you should know that by now, and i think i deserve a little more credit than that.

C. you proved yourself that you have no idea how much money it takes to run a site like this. $50 a month is a joke.

Youre obviously just trying to start a fight. I'm done with this topic. If you feel like you need to talk to me more about this issue, you can contact me off the forums, gloves off. you know how to contact me.

hi im not jumpin onto anyones side but i was just thinking no question is a rude one, meat and all those guys make the forum without them it whould just be blank space and no one whould come here for anything, im not sayin that this premiure thing is a bad idea, frankly i think its great, but just remeber no matter what question is asked, you should reply if you like it or not, because we make the forums, we post, we answer, we keep it alive! just food for thought, websites are hard work, and do cost a pretty penny, but remeber we are your website, the forum, and the posters.

p.s. thanks for the website i love it! keep up the good work!

oh I have an idea, and my idea is around $30 to $50 bucks a month. I have seen website hosts that offer 50megs of space and unliminted bandwith for $9.99 a month, once you go over 50 megs of space the price goes up, but still with tons of space the price is still under $30 bucks a month. $50 bucks a month is a high price.

I work for a web hosting company as a programmer, I'm not a college kid. If I was to host the HQ anywhere else other than the company I work for, I'd be paying a lot more than what I'm paying now. (Yes they make me pay even though I work for them)

I've provided some stats to show just how big this site is:

-Monthly the site averages 1.8 million hits

-Monthly the site averages 500,000+ page views

-Monthly the site averages 29,335 unique visitors

-The size in megabytes of the HQ not counting log files or database size, is, at time of this writing, 297 MB.

-The database in megabytes is 384 MB

-Web Logs for reporting are currently 805 MB for 3 months of reporting.

-Each email account I provide currently and in the future will cost me per account due to the spam/virus filtering used on the server.

-I reject advertising inquiries from every company that is not a banshee-related company. All advertisers are relavent to the site and/or the Banshee.

-I pay for the hosting company's WebTrends Enterprise server to analyze the web log files, for accurate reporting to our valued advertisers.

50 megs a month isn't going to cut it for the HQ. It will eventually go onto it's own server. $1500+.

Stuff costs money. And that is why I get advertisers and sell site/banshee related items. Communities cost money. I'm not the type to beg for it, I try to provide things for the members which will help them, but help support the sites financial needs as well. Not to line my pockets.

Lee thanks for answering my question. And my question was legit, no way did I ever invision you "lining your pockets" with our money. I just simply wanted to know why you guys needed to add a premium members section.

Brooke.... whatever

First of all I dunno why you guys are kneeling down to the idea of Stuart Toomey. We had a freakin awesome engine/pipe builder that knows the same if not more(im pretty sure its more) than him, but the people here ran him off(his name was Sainty if you dont remember) Talk to stu if you dont believe me.

Meat I don't want it to seem like im attacking you or anything (because im not) but why do you have to be such an asshole??(lol im j/k)

But seriously I'm sure Brooke has heard this before and I'm sure if you put yourself in her position you would understand. This site doesnt really have too many sponsors, i think it only has 3 of em, if you compare it to other web sites you'll see the amount of sponsors isnt at all what it should be. So from that you know they can't be making too much money off of it, and they have to support this website not because theyre getting rich off of it but because they love the members and the sport, plus they arent too strict about advertising on here, unlike any other website I can just come on here and start advertising my store that exclusively sells bagels n bras to dwarfs. So wouldnt you get a bit annoyed if people kept telling you this over again, but in reality it's hard for you to support it?

PS please dont take that asshole thing seriously, its just a joke.

in reality it's hard for you to support it?

In reality all I asked is WHY I have to support it financally. If I asked you for money, but didnt give you a clear reason why I needed the money, wouldnt you want to know why and where im spending your money? And if you did ask me "why do you want my money meat" and I just ignored you, woulnt that sorta piss you off ?

Now that things have been cleared up by Lee, I have a better understanding where my hard earned dollar is going. I dont want to spend my money on adding new forums or subforums to BHQ, and I dont want to pay Stu Toomey or whoever.... for thier opinions, I dont want stickers or any physical objects for my membership. If Lee needs cabbage to keep BHQ online, then all he had to say was "help". Hell, id rather donate hard cash to the cause than be in some kinda premier club forum thing.

And Brooke darling, Im sorry if I offened you or if you thought my questions were "rude".

I think "papa smurf's" last post was a good one and summed up my thoughts to the T. Frankly I think all the members of this site desirve straight forward answers to straight forward questions. Again, sorry if I stepped on any toes. My questions were not intended to be rude..... or as you said... "trying to start a fight.

Now lets get off the topic of me and my rude questions and get back to the topic of this thread.

While I'm pretty sure I am one of the ones being held responsible for Sainty's flight from the forums here, I for one would be happy to have him back. He seemed to be very knowledgable and unlike some others who profess to know alot, Sainty was at least willing to share.

One of the problems I see with having some of the Banshee geniuses on a forum is that they get bombarded with stupid or redundant questions.

That's why I think it would be best to ask them to answer a list of questions after they have been posted to a single page.

It could be announced that {for example} Stuart Toomey will be answering questions on August 1st. Please post your questions to the Banshee Genius page. A moderator would on a daily basis screen out the stupid and redundant questions and then on August 1st he would come thru, answer the questions and if possible OFFER DISCOUNTS on his products to promote sales. {Here's where he gets paid... volume sales}.

One of the reasons Toomey comes up so often is that he does actually ALREADY answer questions. He loves his business and the Banshee and is always willing to return an answer even to a question I'm sure he gets a million times a day. That wouldn't need to be part of a premier account, it would just take some knowledgable volunteers and some managament to get it going.

As far as paying for a premier account, if it provides funds that are needed to keep the HQ alive, then great. If Lee and Brooke can sell web space or something else to keep the funds rolling in and it's usable, then sign me up. A BHQ golf tee is completely useless to me but a cool sticker or flag or shirt... I may have some money for that.

Well I know we are off the topic but , I didnt think It was rude of meat to ask where the money would go. If I am going to pay for something, I want to know where it goes. Period. I definitely understand that it takes money to keep this site going and can appreciate that I dont have to pay a dime to get a great site like this going. I really like this site and have been a member since I cant remember when, long before this new version of the forum started. I love the fact that there are no popups, and the advertising is at a minimum. Its there if I want it.

Hats off to Lee and Brooke. Great job.

Now about this premier account. I would like a guestimate on the cost to have a primier account. I know that what would be offered is still up in the air. But I think I could get into this new account depending on price.

I have to feed my kids some bread, now and then, ya know.

In any circumstance where a website requires payment for further information or added feature accessiblity (whether it be the NY Times Online, CNN.com, a porno site, or hotornot.com), there is always question as to where the money goes. However, all of these are businesses covering business expenses and overhead.

Yes, the BansheeHQ is technically now a business because I charge companies to advertise. Any money left over after the overhead is paid, is usually put back into the site in some way or another, whether it be labor, merchandising, or promotional aspects. But I don't like to think of the BansheeHQ as a business per-say... It's a community, and more of a hobby and passion of mine.

If I had to guestimate how much it would cost each member....

The system for yours and my own convenience, would be either billed Bi-Yearly (every 6 months), or Yearly on a pre-pay basis. Most likely it won't go up and online until I have a considerable amount of features and offerings. I'm estimating it will be between $60-$70 per year. That comes out to be around $6 per month.
