nicktoney Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 so my friend has a 250r. asked for some jetting help, and my shee has been helped here for numerous things, so i figured someone has gotta know about these quads... here are his mods no airbox lid full fmf pipe 180lbs compression reeds/spacers (boysen pro series) 65degree weather 1500ft above sealevel his problem is the quad wont idle and it loads up on the bottom end. the top end is peachy. his jetting currently is needle - R1474RJ (2nd clip from top) pilot - 48 main - 158 any help for this would be appriciated! nicktoney Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 he said its the stock carb Quote
xTHUNDERCATx Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 when he first get on the gas does it hesitate to rev up then when it does rev up does it take a while for the rpms to go down? if its doing something along those lines i would try moving the needle clip to a fatter position Quote
sinisterboo Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 stock should be a 34mm mikuni i belive, I have never had a idle prob outta one of those. Check the pilot jet passage real good for debris. Now if it was a kehin, id say tough shit, they either idle to the moon or not at all, LOL. I will check my car that was on my bike when I got it, had close to the same set-up. Quote
01banch Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Stock for 81-85 was a 35 keihin round slide, 89-89 was 34pj, A 250r will never idle low ever it seems, I know mine had a air leak and would not idle period due to the extra air getting in. I would do a leakdown test and if that checks out move the needle down ive never moved mine from the middle except when i go 4000 feet plus. The needle does effect alot on these things. It sounds like a air leak though. sorry to ramble on. Quote
black sunshine Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 My 250 is totally different from my Banshee as far as jetting is concerned. Mine needed to be leaned way down just to run the stock setup. I put a pipe and reeds on it, it needed less fuel than before!! I currently have a 148 main and I believe a 42 pilot. I'm not positive on those, I'll have to double check, but I believe you are rich on the pilot and probably the main. Do a plug chop with your current setup and see what it looks like. Not a bad idea to do a leakdown, either. Quote
