patrickkomar Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 So I had a side roll over crash that toasted a set of bars and now that I'm doing the tear down/ inspection, it appears that the hoop that holds the upper steering stem mount has been bent back toward the fuel tank. How do I go about straightening this up and how do I know when I have it right? Quote
ohiobanshee Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I used a port a power to jack mine out. I unbolted the stem from the hoop than jacked up the hoop till it touched the stem than I went 1/4 inch more. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 bottle jack works well.. put it between the front seat mount and the loop and jack away. youre going to need to gusset the loop now or its gonna bend right back even easier this time. Quote
patrickkomar Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 The port-a-power is no problem for me to get my hands on(have over a 100 at work from 2 to 10 ton and up 18" of stroke!) and cut, grind, weld is some thing I do really well...... dose any one have any pics of were they in stalled there new gussets? The "Hoop" seems to have bent just above the factory gussets but is not touching the fuel tank. I can get pic's up tomorrow if it helps. Quote
LiftdT4R Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 bump Hmm, when I did mine, I just welded flat stock up along the vertical hoop round rails. Unfortunately I don't have pictures, but I'm sure you could find them somewhere. Just mock it up first and make sure the flat stock doesnt interefer with the gas tank. Quote
patrickkomar Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 K well it's bent back in to what I think is about right and I'm trying to decide what is going to be the best way to do the gussets. Thinking about adding to whats there, I have a good friend who fabs sandrails might take it out to him and let him give me a few ideas Quote

Do a search of this site as there are some threads that have pics in them or atleast there used to be. You could also PM bigred350X on here, as he has some pictures of his gusset work. Per some of these previous threads, I discovered I do not have any pictures that are worth anything of my gussets. Quote
