91/99 banshee Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 (edited) i just bought a 99 banshee, pretty much all stock except for k&n filters. it ran fine for the first couple of days, [would usually start with half a kick. but now i have been romping on that kick start, and nothing]. and then it started to bog down really bad. i got to tearing down and i just happen to look at the sliders in the carbs. don't know if that's what they are called. haha...but anyway, only one was going up. so i tore the tors apart and found out that the throttle cable was broke. well i replaced the cable today, cleaned up the carbs and installed everything back in the way it came out. and now it won't start at all. i can pull start but then it won't stay on. i think that i need to adjust the idle but don't really know how. i have read alot of other topics, and the main one of my concern is the top end. does anyone think that that could be the problem. let me know. fyi, i just did some comparisons and my throttle play on my 91 is less the a 1/4, and the one on the 99 is a lil more than that. but anyway, let me know what you guys think. thanks in advance. AKheathen Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 the choke tube is a little piece of vaccume hose that connects to a nipple on the back of the choke and goes directly across to a nipple on the right carb. do a search on syncing your carbs, and check/replace your plugs Quote
brian102 Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 if your worried about top end do a compression check and hope the number come above 105-110 Quote
91/99 banshee Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 ok, thanks guys. i'll check on that today. and i'll look for that vacuum tube. do you have to take that off when you are taking the carbs off. i don't remember taking any tube like that off...........thanks for the replies. much help.... AKheathen Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 check the pic in the other thread. it shows it Quote
91/99 banshee Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 well i did everything. the tube for the choke was off, and when i put it on it worked fine. still a lil laggy on the get go, but then it picks up. what kinda gauge do you need to do a compression test. i have an ole snap on one, but shoot, when i tested it, it was hella low. like around 25 or so. i think it went as high as 30 once. but i don't really know the proper way to test either. i just took out the spark plug and kicked it over, and that's what it read. well my dad kicked it over. anyway let me know what you think. oh, and on another note. i cleaned my carbs on my 91, and well now it's runnin like crap. i replaced everything this time, and it's hella laggy now. when i rode it to my dads house earlier, it was runnin really good, now it's crap. what do you think. i changed plugs, cleaned filter and filter basket, cleans the carbs jetts and all entrances, checked the reeds and the cage. everything seems to be fine. i kinda feel like i should have left it alone since it was doing well. guess the sandhills are outta the question for this weekend. haha...anyway, let me know what you think. i found the needle clips and the tube. thanks....... 91/99 banshee Posted July 6, 2009 Author Report Posted July 6, 2009 well the 91 is still running like crap. i cleaned the carbs again, used a lil air to clean out those hard to reach holes. but still the sme ole thing. how can it run fine from one second to another. i mean, i rode it to the shop, and then after cleaning the carbs and filter, it's boggin down really bad, and dies under load. high speed is fine once it gets there, but other than that, CRAP!!! any help would be appreciated. o and i already changed the plugs. so idk. we'll see.... Larry's Shee Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Did you put slides in correct carb? Are they in correct, cut away facing air cleaner(angled side)? Did you use to much oil on air cleaner, causing over rich condition? Quote
91/99 banshee Posted July 6, 2009 Author Report Posted July 6, 2009 i am sure that i put the slides in correct, but i have a chance to check today. i didn't really pay attention to that. but we'll see...the carbs are off right now. anyway, bout the slides, i know that the lil indention goes on the slider left to right, but i don't know what cut angle you are talking bout. let me know. thanks for the input. Larry's Shee Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Most of the bottom of the slide is flat(sort of), part of it comes up at an angle so that slide is about 1/4 shorter. That is called the "cut away", it faces the aircleaner. Hope this helps. Quote
AKheathen Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 also, there is a dot on each slide. it lines up with the little window @ wot. if it doesn't, they are in the wrong carb. check the float heights and airleaks. Quote
91/99 banshee Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 UPDATE@@ I did what you guys told me. i guess one of the slides was in wrong, and well it's at least staying on at a nice idle. but still have to rev on it to get it to run nice under load. it runs great once it's up there, but getting outta first is a bia sometimes. let me know what you guys think. thanks for all the help. 91/99 banshee Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 ok, so i finally had some time to get on the damn thing and see what this banshee could do, and well it runs fine on top, but getting outta first still boggs down bad. i have to rev on it to get it going, but once there, is a bad azz. so let me know what you guys think. thanks.
