Hey Guys,

Pretty sure I am having an electrical issue with my Banshee. I can kick the crap out of it for awhile, every time I kick, it will ping once (the sound of spark) but then nothing. I usually do this for however long then start taking apart electrical connections and plugging them back in. I'm not sure exactly where the problem is but this afternoon after I fiddle around with some wiring it started up like nothing..first kick. Sat there and let it run for a bit warming it up, but then it will all the sudden shut off like I switch the kill switch (no I did not move the kill switch). So I kick the crap out of it again, still nothing...fiddle with the electrical some more and bam, starts right up. Only this time it runs for the length I want it to, and it runs dang good! Come back from my ride and shut it off with the kill switch. Put away some tools, jumped back on and went to start it...no start, same thing.

Any ideas on how and where to check my wiring harness for ohm readings, voltage readings, etc? I don't have a Clymer on me, which sucks. Any help would be awesome, I want to be able to go out, ride and be able to start it up like the old days.

Compression is 152 in each cylinder, fuel and oil is new and spark plugs are new as well.

unplug your kill switch wire (the black with a white stripe) just where it connects with the bullet connector under the handlebars and see if it runs. you wont be able to turn it off with this wire unplugged but if it runs and starts every time i would pull the kill switch assembly apart

apart from that you can get a Yamaha manual online and check coil, cdi, etc etc

well, what wires did you mess with? if all you did was the switch, and then it stopped working, i would start by ohming that.

this should help

13.7-20.5 on the stator, and ~100 on the pickup coil red+green and red/white+green/white

black/white wire should not see ground untill you kill it, and black red should see ground to run

look near the exhaust for any melting

13.7 - 20.5 on the stator? What am I measuring and where to I take the reading from?

Thanks!

oh, take the reedings from the cdi plug. red and green @13.7-20.5 on the stator, and red/white and green/white is the pickup @ about 100 ohms. :geek:
