I posted about a problem with my banshee a few weeks ago and it still is acting up after ordering new jets and playing around with the carbs. So here is the problem. I had 320 Main jets, clip moved up one on the needle, and I had 32.5 Pilot jets with the air screw out 2 turns. Ran pretty good in the mid and top end but the banshee would fall flat on its face when trying to take off in the low end. So I turned the air screws in all the way and it actually started running better with the 32.5 pilots. Not too bad actually. So then I ordered 27.5 pilots and just put those in today and turned air screws out 2 whole turns. Banshee was having the same problem and kept falling flat on its face when trying to take off. I turned the air screws in all the way and it ran better. I dont know what to do because the only reason I tried the 27.5 and 32.5 pilots is because I had the stock pilots in (25's) and it ran like crap then too. The plugs were black when I had the 27.5 pilots in and the air screws 2 turns out. But when I had the 32.5 pilots and the air screws in all the way the plugs looked brown/tan color. They actually looked really good. What do you guys think the problem is? The banshee is in great condition, everything is fresh I just looked over the whole bike.

Also is it bad to run the bike with the air screws IN all the way if the plugs look good?

And oh yeah, my mods are in my signature, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction with this.

Thanks alot,

Pete

Well you said you turned the air screws in and it got better right? So that means you made it more rich and it liked it, so why did you go down two sizes on the pilot? Put your 32.5's back in it and adjust the needle down one slot and see how it works.

Hey I did exactly what you said. Pilots are at 32.5 and I moved the clip down 1 on the needle with air screws turned all the way in and it seems to be running perfect. I couldn't tell 100 percent because the street was slick and it kept spinning the back tires. But it seems to run great. My only question now is can I leave the air screws turned in all the way because its running great and I don't want to mess with it?

first see if it runs better with the needle 1 more clip, and you can go back out on the airscrews. if not, go with 35's, and put the needle back where it is.

I will do that. Thanks again for the help everyone.

Seems you have figured out the problem, but I was going to suggest your needle position! If you are out riding, revving fairly low and you go to snap the throttle or even walk into it normally. A bad position in the needle clip can cause no to really slow ass acceleration, usually actually bogs, or just sounds like its running out of fuel (kinda).

What is your elevation and air temp?

32.5 Pilots seem a bit big even with the mods you are running.

i had similar issues like you last year. turned out i had an air leak, where the boost bottle plugs into the intake boots. check yours out. i had to smear some silicone on that joint, to keep the air leak gone. also, 32.5 pilots sound too big for your mods. i wouldn't see you needing anything higher than 30's. i only needed 27.5 pilots on mine, w/air screws @ 1-1/2 turns. remember too when tuning, if your shee runs better when the air screws are turned in, you need to go fatter w/the pilots, not leaner to 27.5's. the bog you are discribing, sounds like a lean bog. also, are you running stock needles? if so, middle position is fine. mine works the best there.

No reason to need bigger than 30 pilots in your setup...

I agree on checking for an air leak...then checking ignition components.

Having to run a motor ridiculously rich on jetting is another sign of an air leak.

My elevation is approx. 900 feet above sea level. Air temp. right now is about 60 degrees. I thought it was weird too how I needed such big pilots when people with similar mods are running alot lower pilot jet sizes. However not many people I ride with here in Cincinnati ride banshees so I dont really have anyone to compare it with around my area. The needle is right in the middle. They are the stock needles from factory carbs.

I just looked over everything for leaks or holes in the rubber intakes, and everything seems OK. Im almost positive all the rubber intakes going from the air box to the carbs and from the carbs to the cylinders are new. They were cracking a while back so ordered up new about ones a year ago. Maybe it is something with the ignition..it runs fine now though. From what I have read and researched on here 35 pilots do seem big for the things I have done??

Im supposed to go riding tomorrow so I will mess around with it a little and see if I can figure something out.

Again, I appreciate the advice. You guys are a big help!

Thanks,

Pete
