cnote Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 just had some work done on my shee new to it, want to get everything i can out of it was wondering about the timing plate. I asked the mechanic who did the work on it and he said its not worth getting an adjustable plate that it would just run hotter and the gain if any wouldn't be worth it. What do you think? I also would like some more low end without hurting the top end any cheap or quick fixes for that. Quote
Christada Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I just talked to kevin from HJR about this tonight and from what he said.. I will be buying one soon Quote
278 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I'd say find a new builder next time, if that was true it wouldn't be one of the top 5 reccomended mods. Its actually a good bang for your buck upgrade. IDK what's done to your bike now, but true/welded crank, porting, some type of cool-head, pipes, and adjustable timing plate... from there I'd go POD filters, reed porting and after market petals or V-force 3's, and wiseco pistons, once that's all done then wider a-arms and axle and some new shocks then work your way from there, everyone's list will be a little different but that,s my opinion (not in exact order) Quote
fck55mph Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I added a timing plate before I did any internal mods and I was quite impressed with the results. Easy to install(if you have the puller) and very well worth the few bucks it cost. Your builder doesnt seem to smart... Quote

MILO Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 with those mods i would definitely add the timing plate and most guys seem to start with +4. i wouldn't recommend returning to any builder who advised against the advanced timing. the goal is to get peak performance out of your ride right? as said before, in combination with some other mods that's one of the best bang for the buck mods around. If you do buy an adjustable plate, be sure to use a site sponsor like Chariot. I just bought one from them, the price was right and you keep the money in the family Quote
278 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Yeah definantly get the plate, theres a ton of online stores you can get one from... As far as ration both are good and I dont think you'll have a problem either way, some prefer 32:1 for better lubrication and somelike the 40:1. I run 32:1 on mine, but that's just because that's what I've always done Quote
MILO Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 i'm running 110 race gas in mine now, but i'm still using yamalube 2R @ 32:1. that's what i've run from day one, well besides the 24:1 initial break in period. it smokes just a tad but it is a 2 stroke after all. i feel much safer at 32 rather than 40:1. it all depends on what oil you use though. i installed a Chariot racing timing plate also. it seems to be pretty well made and bolted right up. Quote
cnote Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 thanks for all the help dont think ill return to that builder any suggestions on pipes. like i said would like a little more low end just for when riding trails but dont want to affect any of the top end was thinking fmf fatties or pt mids want the most bang for the buck. 01banch Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 For pipes i am in love with my Pt mids, cost for a new set is high but heck in this sport you normally get what you pay for. Quote
