Titan up Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 Last weekend at the dunes the banshee was running great until it lost spark 1/2 way up the hill and died. It was at night so I pulled the plug out and held it against the head and kicked it over, but didn't see any spark. The head lights would flicker though. I have a Ricky stator stator on there, and I'm leaning towards that being the problem.(ignition coil on stator) I had a spare coil that I tried while I was out there, but I didn't bolt it to the frame and maybe the coil has to be grounded to the frame in order to work???, If not then the coil is fine. Been super busy and haven't had time to tear into yet, just want some oppinions on the issue. Thanks. Quote

tidos76 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 CDI? Coil? Stator? ground? plug caps? Quote
Titan up Posted March 28, 2009 Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 The coil has to be grounded to the frame for it to work. Cool. I was too lazy to take off the coil and bolt up my spare in its place while I was out there, so I'll just start with that this weekend. Hopefully it's the coil. I don't really want to pull the stator side cover off, unless I have to, because the threads on my shifter are on their last legs. Quote
wacko2000 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 I had a similiar problem and it was my stator. From what I have read/heard the banshee coil and cdi almost never go bad. I would try swapping stator's first Good luck I hate electrical problems Quote
AKheathen Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 if you don't wanna tear it apart just to check, you can hook a test light between the red and green wires @ the cdi plug, and kick it. it should light bright Quote
tidos76 Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 banshee electrical read this. its alot to read but has a ton of useful info. it also tall you how to test your stator using a miltimeter. it will keep you from tearing it apart just to see. Quote

Titan, I discovered my stator was bad using the meter/resistance method. Quote
desertdeweller Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 a lot of us have had problems with ricky stators junk that would be my first choice to check knowing the history with his banshee stators Quote
Titan up Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 Well one of the flywheel rivets sheared off and stuck to one of the nodes and when the node went by the pickup, it took out the pickup. I need a flywheel and stator now. This pic is not mine , but looks identical to what happened to mine....jbooker82's bike below http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/jboo...cs/100_2219.jpg Quote
TNTS355 Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 In the future if you have a problem. Pull out the multimeter and Clymers and ohm everthing out. You can check everything but the cdi. Quote
AKheathen Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 In the future if you have a problem. Pull out the multimeter and Clymers and ohm everthing out. You can check everything but the cdi. a test light will tell you that the flywheel manets are good, as well as the windings. a test i came upon for those without access to a multimeter Quote
