Ieat4strokes Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Well where do I start..... after 9 years @ 20.00 a hr ( which is way above average for my demographic) @ the same shithole I have finally joined the ranks of the unemployed.... The money i had in the bank for my 4mill setup, new cylinders and porting is now going to keeping me a damn house until I find further employment. Now i know that nobody is going to outright give out porting measurements because thats what they get paid for.... but im going to do it myself for now.... so from what i gathered, raising the exhaust port a couple mm builds power in the upper rpm? widen the intakes a few, and raise them a few mm as well and knife the bridge.......basically just make sure they dont offset the stock stroke of the piston right? this is just my take and me looking at all the pics ive seen.....im actually very handy with my rotary tool and wanna give it a shot and know itll be better than stock Im not just gonna dive in and hog it out...if i have to buy 10 base gaskets a shave a mm at a time, compare, shave some more, compare, then i will...... but i WOULD love a little direction, please.... BansheeRider87 Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 From what I have read and heard, leave it to the pros. Quote
BansheeRider87 Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I'm also unemployed, sucks when its been almost a solid 4 months Quote
wacko2000 Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Sucks guys, I feel for everyone that is unemployed, Im a hoisting carpenter in NYC, In the begining of the year my company had almost 300 million in work on the board for 2009, now we have around 60 million. They laid off a bunch of guys, I feel like on walking on egg shells everyday. Anyways, guys keep your heads up, things have to turn around sooner or later, just sit tight and do wateva you have to to make a buck/support the family> joseph Quote
Ieat4strokes Posted March 25, 2009 Author Report Posted March 25, 2009 yea it does suck, i havent been 1 day without a job since was 16, im 28 now.....though most would love to draw unemployment and sit back and relax for a couple months i dnt think i can do it....i got a wife and 2 kids and though she makes decent money i gotta b the bread winner.....just dont feel right. having 9 yrs at the same job i thought i was safe but they layed off 61 out of 180 ppl and i was one of the unfortunate. sighs trust me i have every intention of leaving it to the pros but i just cant shell out 300 bones at a time like this..... wifey would not like that at all and i really dont feel like hearing the whole priorities, and are u serious speach..... hahahah i know i cant get a 100% finely tuned efficient port doing it myself, but i do know that i can do it and make it better than stock, ive done a few 4 strokes with good results but im also aware that its a totally diff science...... dajogejr Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I know you don't want to hear this...but you did ask. You can just as easily make it worse than stock if you don't know what you're doing. And you can just as easily make it to where no pro will want to touch it because you've gone beyond saving. I can completely understand the budget thing...but if you mess it up, it'll be even more expensive to fix and no end to our shit economy in sight or the job market getting any better. Just throwing it out there... Good luck on finding new work...I sat home off and on in 2002-2003 after 9 years with a company that went out of biz...then I found this job. Something better is out there, just sit tight and save... Quote
spike Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 I'd say since you're sitting at home with nothing better to to, go get yourself the A Graham Bell 2 stroke tuning book, read it over twice and go for it according to what you learned. the book should be about 15$ Good luck for your project and professional life! dajogejr Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 This is invaluable as well....available in paper back too. http://www.edj.net/2stroke/jennings/ Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 there is a compny out there called race logic, they make templetes for banshee cylinders so you have a base line to go off of... I am sure you will not get a 100hp drag motor from there templetes but at least they give ya a direction to go in..... sorry to hear about your job.... that suck for sure..... Quote
desertdeweller Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 racelogic sells do it yourself porting templets. they cut them out on a cnc for your style of porting then you scribe the cylinder and go to work. I have heard a few people say they liked it. but at the same time I have never personally ridden or seen the stuff first hand. I guess its like 80 bucks for a magnetic templet to put in your cylinders Quote
desertdeweller Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 haha looks like babanshee and I were on the same wave length. it probably took me ten minutes to post since one hand in cast and I can`t type with both hands anyway. Quote
