the shift shaft is all the way in

where does the pancake go?

yeah the shift shaft is the thing that goes all the way through and shifter goes on it. and the pancake bearing goes where the ball is.

so basically all i need is a clutch basket and clutch and springs and a pancake

do i need a new gasket?

i usually get new gasket if its ripped. and the outer basket isnt bad its the inner hub that i would replace.

Proper inspection of the parts should tell the story but by the looks of your friction plates, your basket has wear. The whole thing needs to be looked at, even the cushions behind the basket. Plates just don't break for no reason. I would agree though, a new clutch system will likely fix your issues.

I have nothing to offer to this thread, but to say that this whole thread was an excellent example of how to diagnose a problem and get help on this forum.

Well done to the original poster for his clear pics and descriptions and also to the others for accurate and spot-on replies.

All that's required is some follow-up once the problem has been solved and this thread could be made a sticky in the repair section.

does the pancake replace this?

DSC00065-1.jpg

Yes the pancake bearing replaces that^^^

be sure to adjust your shift shaft. The forks need to have equal spacing when the bike is in neutral. just bent the tab up on the eccentric screw and brak the nut loose. turn the screw until the spacing is correct then while holding the screw tighten hte nut back down and bend down the tab. its very easy to do.

if you are 100% sure everything is adjusted and installed correctly at the clutch, you may need to split the cases. sounds to me like something is wrong inside.
