25THZ28 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 I plan on ice racing next year and I'd like to see some pics of your tire set ups. I am curious as to why I see people cutting down their swing arms 2 inches. Is it to move weight over the axle? Maybe lighten up the rotating mass of the chain and give more direct power to the wheels? Thanks. Quote
spike Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 this is what you need to be in front. shen shing 826 and screw with this pattern check out this thread for everything else you need to know on ice racing http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=108436 Quote
25THZ28 Posted March 16, 2009 Author Report Posted March 16, 2009 I am pretty sure I have a good setup in mind. The problem I see is traction. The two strokes just don't seem to hook up like the fours. I watched a race yesterday and there was a 500 Q racer out there and he was about to get lapped. I know alot of it is the rider, but evan the 250s just don't seem to hook up. I want to be able to bolt off the line. Gearing and the studs are my biggest problem. How different are the MF44's to the Kold cutters? They sure are more expensive. You can get twice as many Kutters for that price. Do you have the studs with the lock nuts? What did you use to help seal the tire? I have heard of people using rubber cement on the threads just before they install them. What tire size would you guys recomend? Why cut the swing arm down? Thanks Quote
fast shee Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Try going to the web page mf44.ca and click on photos at top of page. He has posted pictures from one of our races at St. Sulpice. He had a few different pics of tires used. Even has pics of itp sand star tires on front of a banshee. Check it out. As for the screws, I have tried all kinds of screws and the mf44 are much more aggressive than koldkutters and hold better when going wide in corners in the snowdust. Quote
25THZ28 Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 Hmm, looks like I'll try them after all. Are the Cheng Shins really the hot ticket? The friend who got on this kick is using Razers with 4 studs per lug. Should I just go with the Shins? If I do, what length stud should I choose, and how many should I order? What size tire should I go with? Why cut the swing arm down 2 inches? I saw alot of shee's in the pics. Are they all strokers? I have almost everything but a stroker kit in mine. do Shee's without the stroker kit hang well enough? Quote
fast shee Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 I have not tried any other rear tires other than chengs but have seen people use razrs before so i can't comment on them. The studs we use are 1 1/4". You need 640 for 18" rear chengs and depending on what you use for front tires. We seem to usually need between 1300-1500 screws for all 4. Not all banshees in the pics are even ported just bolt ons. I have had lots of success with stock stroke and porting but it does not have as much mid pull. The shorter swinger allows better transfer and more controlable drifting with quicker turning. The orange and black with flames banshee in the pics has a cheetah block on it and goes like hell but he blew most of the corners because he was too fast down the straights so sometimes it is possible to have too much power for the track. BansheeJohn Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'm running cheng's in the rear and Razor MX in the front. You can get a smaller tire with the razor's on front. I'm running a 4-3 pattern down the center and 8 per lug on the inside and 12 per lug on the outside. I'll try and get a pic. Quote
25THZ28 Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 I am pretty sure a friend is going to give me the Razers off the fromt of his wheeler since he just bought a new set. I was planning on running them on the front and ging with the Chengs in the rear. I am thinking about going with 2 studs per lug in the rear set diagonaly from one another. I think it might hook up better. I think I am going to try and find another swing arm to try cutting it down so I can try it. I called Trinity yesterday and asked about the 421 stroker kit and he said it was $2800, and I'd have to run dual 35mm carbs. So the stroker kit will have to weight for now. Have you guys done the porting yourself or did you have someone else do it? Quote

I would run 1 inchers in the rear and then nylon nut the inside. once you do all that spray carpet adhesive evenly inside. You will never have one pull out or turn on you. I forgot to mention you want to index your screws so they are facing the same way. Then you can cut the eccess off each nob for more traction. I'f I can I'll get a picture for ya. Quote
25THZ28 Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 f you could I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Quote
