i change my jet in the bottom of the bowl today. What jet is that? Anyways it was a 170, i change it to a 172 then a 168. I ran before i fucked with it, but didnt idle. When i put the other two jets in it wouldn't start. So i changed it back to the orginal setting. Now it wont start on that either. Any suggestions?

that jet should have little to no affect on it starting. that is the main jet. the pilot jet is what you need to be looking for. you will probably have to take the bowl off to get to it, as it sits off to the side of the main jet.

what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Well before it would start. Now that i switched everything and then put it back to the way it was it wont start. It was starting but no idle it would take 1/4 throttle to make it idle. Where is the pilot jet located. And what do i need to do to make it run!

if you tell us what your mods are, ur elevation, and temps. someone might be able to get u pretty close on your jetting.

and like loco said u will have to remove the bowl on the carb and the pilot will be the other jet next to the one u changed already. which is the main jet.

it wont be the choke tube, thats only on stock carbs.

Sounds like to me if everything was working fine before you messed with the carbs, you got a piece of dirt in the pilot when you were moving them around. Pull the bowl off and next to the main down inside of a aluminum barrel type thing there will be a brass pilot jet. You will need a pocket flat headed screwdriver. Take it out and clean it and the passage in the carb.

To add to this post, I've circled in red where the pilot jet is.

Remove it as said, get some brake cleaner...and flush the shit out of it.

Then brake clean the pilot jet (tell us what size it is. It'll probably be in the 42 to 55 range.

Get a piece of speaker wire and clean out the pilot jet, then brake clean it again.

Once you pull the pilot jet, you'll realize why I said speaker wire. A tiny piece of dirt is all it takes to plug a pilot.

Gently bottom out each air screw, then open each 1.5 turns from lightly seated.

when you say bottom out do you mean, turn it all the way to the right. and then open it 1.5? or to the left? Sorry first time working on carbs!! thanks for all the help!!

The pilot jet must be snug, do NOT overtighten.

The air screw is on the side of the carb. It threads in like any other bolt/nut would.

Do not CRANK it closed, lightly seat it. Then back it out 1.5 turns.

Once you have the carbs back together. Give'm a tap with the handle of a screw driver or something. The floats might be sticking a little. I had to do this to mine once and it fired right up. It could be as simple as that....

Someone just asked a similar question on here.
