lokisbuddy Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 ok guys here are the pics it took some work but i finally got the axle out of the carier on bearing is in tact on was shreded, do you think the carier will be ok if i hone the center a bit? also what about the sleeve? I ordered my new bearings front and back today. do i need a new sleeve? and if so what do they run? thanks guys! http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u221/lo.../Picture240.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u221/lo.../Picture239.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u221/lo.../Picture238.jpg http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u221/lo.../Picture237.jpg (note the small ball bearing like recesses in the sleeve? wonder what could have caused it? maybe balls out travel for 20 minutes or so lol I feel like an idiot.) Michael Jackson Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 you could prob buy a good shape used carrier on here for the same price as the whole bearing and seal kit from pivot works alone, the first pic of the inside sucks, but if its as scarred up as the tube then id just buy a good shape used one and a couple fresh bearings Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 ahhh.. yep, we have seen this before.. just clean it all up. no need to hone on the carrier and what not.. just clean it up, put the new bearings and seals in, and ride.. you really have to mess the carrier up bad to make it useless... from the pics it doesn't look like its that bad at all.. Quote
lokisbuddy Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 The carier has some grooves but not bad the tube sucks is it usable or should i get a new one? i already ordered the bearings for front and rear for 37 bucks shipped. oh btw can someone tell me how to make my sig pic not so large? thanks Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 the tube is just a spacer, the grooves will not make any difference.. no need to get a new carrier or spacer.. just put the new bearings in and go.. trust me man.. you are over worrying on this one.. Quote
lokisbuddy Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 ok bro but if i put it together and some scary shit happens I swear to god I will not vote for you in the next presidential elections. I will still probly clean and hone it up though. thanks for the help. any info on the sig pic deal though lol Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 i would not suggest honing the carrier.. you want the bearings to fit as tight as possible.. when you hone it out the bearings may fir a little looser in the housing.. maybe just run some sandpaper through it to smooth any ruff spots... that would be all i would do.. no idea on the sig pic bro.. and im not running for any elections anytime soon.. lol Quote
lokisbuddy Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 lol "honing" I dont know what the hell i was thinking i meant taking a wire wheel and taking the burs off the part the bearing sits in has no burs or nothing just where the balls were ground between the shaft (wow that sounded completely wrong :teehee: ) but yeah ill debur it when i get my new bearings ill slap it together and see if i cant ride for more than an hour this time. any suggestions for new bearings? will white lithium grease work for them? also my carier has no grease zerk is that normal? my blasty had one. shee4speed Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 put your sig pic on photobucket and resize it down. Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 yea. no grease zerk on the stock carrier.. now would be a good time to drill and tap to add one if ya want... when you put it together be careful not to overtighten the axle nuts, if they are too tight the axle will not spinn freely, overtightened axle nuts put a lot of side load on the bearings, and they will not last very long... just snug it up to get rid of any side to side play, then tighten up the jam nut and you are finished... they should last a while. lokisbuddy Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 ok thanks for the help guys. where do i buy a grease zerk? or could i pull one off of something? Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 any auto parts store.. try autozone. Quote
fastbanshee8 Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 If you install the grease zerk, be sure to take the inside seal out of each bearing, before installing them in the carrier. I did this same mod about 10 years ago, and I'm still running the same axle bearing. Quote
J.J. Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Nothing wrong with that carrier. If you do the grease zerk mod remember to drill a few holes through the spacer sleeve as well. Problem with the grease zerk mod is that there is no way the air can escape, so I drilled and tapped a second hole in the carrier with a plug to act as a vent hole. The grease zerk mod works great!
