I need some advice guys. I have a stock 2003 with toomey t-6's, stock carbs, airbox w/no lid. the problem I'm having is that at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle the bike sputters and sounds like it is loading up. it runs great once I hit the powerband. in 5th and 6th it will hardly pull unless i pretty much redline the previous gear and keep it on the pipe. It was never like this on my old banshee so Im wondering if its the toomey needles. should I raise the clip/lower the needle to lean it out a bit or should I try the stock needles. toomey says their needles must be used cause if the stock ones would work they wouldnt send replacements. The slides are in correctly, 340 mains (which I thought might be rich at 10 degrees F but ran strong on top-no sputtering), stock pilot jet (idled fine), about 500 ft. elev. Please help me cure this. Seems like the 340s would be a little rich, I had that same setup on my 03 and ran great with 290s with the lid off and k&n. My ele. 650-800 so I would think you would be around the 310-320 with the cold weather, and set your needle on the 3rd or 4th groove rich side.

but if its jetted too fat, wouldnt it sputter at WOT?

I would try dropping the main a little or as MJ suggested play with the needle, and do a plug chop.

EVERY motor is different.

There are 6 different clip positions on the Dynojet needles for Toomey...and they include a washer as a "half" adjustment.

If you've been through all of those clips....then I say change the needles out...but you're supposed to start at the 4th clip from the blunt end.

Move it to the 3rd from the blunt end...try again.

 

The toomey needles to richen up the mid throttle....

i had a similar prob i got the same needles with 300 mains. i put them down on the 4th from the top and it bogged out bad so i put them on the 3rd from the top and had no prob. im at 530 above sea level. and i had a K&N with now lid and toomey t6s. so id try with 310 mains for winter like said and or move the clip. you pretty much just gotta play with it til you et it setup right. noe that i got pods and porting coming soon i gotta play with it all over again.lol

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I'll try moving the clip and see what happens. I read the pinned articles and from what I take of it is that if my mains were too big it would pop or sputter at WOT, so am I really too rich? I'd rather be rich than lean so I'll mess with the clips first and go from there. One other question- when it was bogging I had the throttle wide open, doesnt that mean the needle isnt even in the jet? If it isnt then will moving the clips make a difference? Thanks again guys, everybody I ride with have four-pokes so they are no help.

2 strokes or 4....a carb is a carb.

 

Each circuit blends in with the prior and next circuit. If your main is that fat..Can effect your needle just past 1/2 throttle.

 

It's hard to tune in a bike with the mains real far off. I don't think you're that far.... Lean the needle, see what happens.
