alternative for toomey o-rings
harbinger of death replied to harbinger of death's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! -
Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody knows a place to get high temp o-rings (napa, autozone, carquest, or any auto chain) or do I have to order them from toomey?

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to first check for burnt or broken wires, then ohm everything cold and see what I get for readings. The manual gives specs at 68 degrees so thats why I'll check it cold first. I'll post up if I get it figured out. -

I'm going to go through my manual and check on ohming different parts, but I don't know if it makes a difference if it's cold or not. The guys on here have been through pretty much any scenario possible, so I'll wait for someone to reply. Had to happen to someone else before. -
Hey guys, I went (or tried to go) riding last weekend and had a problem with losing spark. It would start fine, idle fine, and for the first 5 to 10 minutes run fine. After that it would start bogging and eventually just die. I pulled the plugs and had no spark. This happened saturday and sunday. It seems like as it got good and warm then I'm guessing either the coil or cdi is failing. Thanks in advance for any advice.

When I got my 03 with toomey t-6's on it the instruction manual for the pipes said some b.s. about an inherent sputter in the midrange due to the harmonics of the incoming charge or something retarded like that. I looked for the manual for exact wording but can't find it. I think it's just because they couldn't get the taper right on the needles that they send with the pipes. I never messed with it too much other than moving the clip position, which didn't really help. If I find my manual I'll get an exact quote for you. -
Hey, you got enough cash now so just get a new one. Just kidding, good luck.

According to the yamaha service manual the reeds should sit flush or near flush against neoprene seats so if you have a gap they're probably shot. You should get a yamaha or clymers manual, all the specs are in them.
-
Do you shut the fuel off when not riding? I've seen raw fuel coming out of the pipes when kicked over because the needles and seats were shot. You may have fuel running into the crankcase causing your rich condition. Also if your reeds are shot it might be part of your backfire problem. And PLEASE clean that thing up! 64 degrees is not cold!
-
Have you checked your reeds? Looks like there has been alot of trash that went through your carbs and why are the threads on your plugs so oily looking in the pics? what are you mixing at? When I ran with no airbox lid at 70 degrees I ran 240 mains. In your first pic there was no crossover tube between the carbs either.

Hey man, what are you trying to build there with the turbo hangin out front? What kind of motor is that? Keep us posted if you get it going and take plenty of pics.

I agree 100 percent with trying to keep american money in american pockets. I have a GMC and 2 pontiacs, am a union operating engineer, and always try to buy american when I can. But everyone on here has given our money to a japanese company (and probably smiled, too). That company is Yamaha. Just my $.02.

are they 10 inch, not 9, so I would have to get rims too?

Any opinions on this air filter system?
harbinger of death replied to andrew3160's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Outerwares are water resistant, not water proof so you will get water through them. Think about it, if you're on the throttle, the engine is trying to suck air-dirt-water-whatever through the filters so if water can get to your filter it wants to go through. Thats why I run an airbox. -

looks like the same thing toomey sells, but they use a foam filter. I have one but never used it cause I ride trails and dont want to suck water in. -
you can go to pro designs website and order them there.

just got new carbs-need a starting point
harbinger of death replied to harbinger of death's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Thanks for your help guys. Looks like I'll have to get jets ranging from 140 to 170 to cover the weather here in wisconsin. I try not to ride much when it's below 0 or when it's over 90 so hopefully those will be enough jets. How many main sizes do you usually change before you have to change the pilots? Looks like I have some experimenting to do to get her dialed in. Once again, thanks for your help. -

can anyone help me? I've never run keihins before. Is there a general rule of thumb for going up and down on mains to adjust for temp? I just want a starting point. -

Nice looking ride! I was on flotek's website this morning and saw one that looked almost exactly the same. Is it your's? -
First of all, merry christmas to everyone. My problem is that I got new pwk 28's and I dont know where to begin with jetting and the rivers are almost ready to ride. Here are my mods-t-6's, +4timing, pro-design foam filter-no lid, and v-3's. Elevation is around 500 ft. and temp is between 0 and 30. Thanks for any help you can give.

sucks here in wisconsin because the DOT wont allow a frame from an offroad vehicle to be ridden on the street.
