whats the best way to keep the shine on alumnium or just metal after giving it a nice bright polish? could you just use some clear coat spray paint?

can clear coat it if it doesn't get hot. but getting something to stick to alum will be a challenge too. in my experience-just keep it dry and keep polishing away!!

I was thinking about powder coating my polished stuff with high gloss clear. I'm just afraid that the heat will mess up the shine. Plus being super smooth, I don't know how well the powder coating will stick after a while. It might end up flaking off.

see i was thinking like my axle, if i spend alot of time polishing it it with a buffer wheel and get a real nice shine on it, i dont think it will get that hot. so thought maybe putting a nice even layer of clear coat on it would help hold the shine, although things like sand and sticks would hit it, maybe just keeping it polished is the easiest way to go

Another thing that works pretty good is GORD's aluminum polish. It is a polish ans sealer. I found this while i was looking at the zoop. This is way cheaper than the zoop and a very nice polish. Just go into google and type in gords polish.

Ive tried Wax, Mothers, Zoop, and more products to seal polished pieces. Result is that I have to repolish every year! It's just what you gotta do with polished stuff guys :geek:

You'll probably think I'm crazy...but my entire bike is black, and I just put my first chrome piece on (the head)...what do you guys polish this with in the first place? Before you even go to "seal it." I don't want to use the wrong stuff.

A bench grinder with a soft cotton buffing wheel on it, and some polishing compound. Get the stick of compound. I use "F" compound for cleaning, and "E" compound for polishing to a mirror shine.

Thanks man. Sorry, I didn't mean to get you guys off topic or anything.
