magz Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 whats the best way to keep the shine on alumnium or just metal after giving it a nice bright polish? could you just use some clear coat spray paint? Quote
kbone77 Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 can clear coat it if it doesn't get hot. but getting something to stick to alum will be a challenge too. in my experience-just keep it dry and keep polishing away!! Quote
2001Stroker Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I was thinking about powder coating my polished stuff with high gloss clear. I'm just afraid that the heat will mess up the shine. Plus being super smooth, I don't know how well the powder coating will stick after a while. It might end up flaking off. Quote

2001Stroker Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I was talking about the heat from the oven messing up the shine. I'm gonna try it on a small peice first, and see how well it holds up. Quote
motavated Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 ive done a few motorcycle frames and put reg. car wax on it after i was done helps out alot but still have to clean it with mothers or something like that Quote
KaosBanshee44 Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Here this is some pretty good stuff Quote
boneyardbanshee. Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Powder will dull it a little. Look for some Zoop sealer. Cant remember where I seen it but alot of the car show guys use it to seal thier Alum rims. Helps keep that shine. Quote
motavated Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 you can get a whole kit of zoop seal at summitt racing.com think its around a hundred heard good thinks about it Quote
bugnut Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Another thing that works pretty good is GORD's aluminum polish. It is a polish ans sealer. I found this while i was looking at the zoop. This is way cheaper than the zoop and a very nice polish. Just go into google and type in gords polish. Quote
CBAIER1206 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I use mother's billet polish which you can get at any auto parts store for like 15 bucks for a jar and it lasts for a while...that and an old t-shirt will do the trick every time! Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Ive tried Wax, Mothers, Zoop, and more products to seal polished pieces. Result is that I have to repolish every year! It's just what you gotta do with polished stuff guys :geek: Quote
05.Banshee.SE Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 You'll probably think I'm crazy...but my entire bike is black, and I just put my first chrome piece on (the head)...what do you guys polish this with in the first place? Before you even go to "seal it." I don't want to use the wrong stuff. Quote

I use "F" compound for cleaning, and "E" compound for polishing to a mirror shine. Quote
