theantboy Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 My 96 died so now i have to rebuild, checked compression and it was 115 in one cylinder and 15 in other cylinder. lol Took it all apart and found out my first ring disintegrated in my cylinder lol anyway since i have to rebuild i was thinking to do some mods already it has toomey t5 and a k&n in the air box and i was thinking of boring out the cylinders. One question is how much can i bore out the cylinders on stock cylinders? Then i was questioning what else i should do cool heads with 20cc domes? wiseco pistons or just oversized pistons to what ever i bore at? timing plate, not sure any inforamtion on that have not done any research on timing yet? and porting if i can do with dremel? Where can i get get a good rebuild kit? any other suggestions would be appreciated if you could please. I want to make it faster so some friends will stop say their 4 wheelers are faster lol one has another shee not really bragging but other friend has a raptor 700 have not raced him but i want to shut him up for good lol Thanks for all the help Quote
vulvafan537240 Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 take your cyls to the local machine shop, ask em how much they need to be bored to clean em up, and buy wiseco pistons from jeff at f.a.s.t. no need for a bigger bore than needed because boring doesnt make much more power. get a chariot adjustable timing plate from ebay and advance it 4 degrees. porting is the best thing you can do for power but dont try to hack it yourself, call jeff. and welcome to the hq. brian Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Coolhaed and domes are a great idea. Adjustable timing plate is an awesome upgrade as well. The most common after market piston is the Wiseco piston. Not sure how big they make for stock cylinders, but personally I would not bore stock jugs more than .080 over. Dont try porting it yourself. Call any of the engine builders on here and they will hook you up with a port job that will suit your riding style. Jim at PRE, Jeff at FAST, and Kevin at HJR are all great guys to deal with. You can buy all the rebuild parts you need from any of those guys. Good luck and welcome to the HQ !! Quote
CBAIER1206 Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 What kind of budget are you dealing with? Quote
theantboy Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 Im not really on a specific budget but not looking to buy a cheetah kit from trinity for 2800 bucks, this is my winter project and i am taking my time on it because i want it to be nice and work perfect when im done. Thanks for the info so far and just had a quick few questions about your answers first is why would boring not give much more power? and i am interested in looking into the porting of what you say and what i have read and was just wondering how i can contact one of them guys and which one you prefer me to contact because i am from michigan? Any other suggestions would be great thanks. Quote
theantboy Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 and also what about reeds? mine are stock what do you think change? and what kind and then also thought of another question is about jetting my carbs after this? Quote
AKheathen Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 and also what about reeds? mine are stock what do you think change? and what kind and then also thought of another question is about jetting my carbs after this? ok, jetting is the most important thing to do. if it's not jetted for your pipes, that would be why you're rebuilding now. the reeds depend on where you want your power. i've heard that blaster reeds are a really good mod, but talk to whoever does the porting, he should line you out on what will work best with the porting.
