Helmet Cam

I have a new Helmet camera that I have never used. It comes with a bar mount and a helmet mount. I was just wondering which mounting point works the best and gives a semi steady shot. I just think that the handlebars would be moving around way too much for any quality video. Any advice?

Helmet mount for sure as your body stays more still because the suspension soaks up everything. I always preferred mounting the cam on the side of the helmet as well, just had better luck this way.

I got it for Christmas. Used it for Snowboarding and it worked out pretty well. How did you mount it to your helmet. I thought about drilling a little hole in the top of the helmet and mounting the mount to it. The camera clips off of the mount. Maybee I can do it on the side as well. Why did you have better luck on the side?

I think your right, the helmet would be a better mounting location. I also got one for xmas and tried it on the helmet, works out great. Mines the gopro hero and it came with the helmet attachment. It has a 160-180 degree lense so I mounted it on top or else it would prolly get the front of my helmet on recording.

helmet is the best spot for a camera it will see what you see.. plus it would be alot clearer... your head is the most stable thing .

how much time can you get out of that camera with a 2 gig sd card ?

we are looking to get one or 2 cameras for glamis 2 .

make sure when you put it on your helmet its not too low or all the vids will be you looking at the ground.. so best to put it on the helmet somehow, sit on quad, vid test it to make sure.. most mounts use velcro type attachment.. i wouldnt drill no hole in my helmet..

Scuffed the spot the used a two part epoxy putty, the king where you just cut it off the roll and squeeze it to mix it like playdough.

 

And yes that is the correct angle, the same angle it was mounted at for the video above.

I have the atc 2k. I put some pictures on bansheetube and youtube of frame mounted video.

Couple of things... the 3k fixes some problems. There is a bug in the hardware that causes wavy lines in the image... also under vibration, the camera will shut off. (and that video is zero length)

I fixed it some by wiring in a capacitor. The sound stinks...

One last thing. Be careful not to screw the base on if there is any mud/sand on the threads. mine stripped out easily.

But I am glad I got it.

for the price the atc is a good camera, but the video to me seems a little dull in color & Auto steady seems weak, from a scale from 1-10 id give it a 6-7,

for about 100 more bucks, you can get the GoHero Pro, the colors and the sounds seem brighter, you can use a larger SD card aswell and the built in Auto steady seems to work pretty darn good, so id give those about an 8-9 plus their half the size of the atc's which may be why they seem steadier.

I've got the ATC5k Action Camera which is a couple of models up from the ATC2k that was mentioned and I've found that it records amazing footage. I can attach it to my helmet or handle bars and it works really well. I've found the battery life to be really good too and the screen on it is bigger than some others that I have seen, which is always good.

 

I'd definitely recommend it.
