wacko2000 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Heading to Glamis in a month and Im ordering Itp sand stars Fronts- 21*7*10 Rear- 20*11* ? Question is do I go with a 8 or 9 inch rim For the thickness is .125 strong enough for the sand? thanks Joseph Quote
Titan up Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 .125 is fine for the dunes and I'd go with the 8" Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I really think you will be much happier with Haulers with an eight inch wheel... :ermm: Eight inch 0.125 wheels will work well with which ever you purchase. Quote
wacko2000 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for the replies guys, Im thinking about going with a set of haulers as-well, what would be a good setup for the rear? Quote
Titan up Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 21x12x8 8 paddle Hauler would be ideal. Quote

bansheejoel Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 stock gearing is fine. I run sand stars and they hook like a bitch. Awesome tire for dicking around, for dragging i would go with a hauler 8 paddle. 8" rims are good but IMO 9's look ALOT better. Im running 9" .190 douglas wheels and have hit roots and rocks and no damage at all Quote

Ill be running this setup in the sand and only sand, Hope i dont come across and roots/ruts or rocks while Im in Glamis. :: I run .190 on by Razrs and they are all beat up.. 190's in the dirt dont cut it for me. I might just stick with the itp sand stars and Find a set of used haulers also. Ill be going with the 8inch rim, not concerned with looks, rather have the most out of the setup. thanks Joseph Quote
Titan up Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) with stock gearing or should i go up in the rear? I wouldn't dick around with the gearing, the stock gearing will be fine for either setup. Unless you're totaly set on the sandstars, I would just go with the haulers and call it a day. The SS's do hook good because of the blade height (1'' tall) and the 8 little mini scoops in between, but all that drag kills your topend. I ran SS's for 3 years before purchasing Haulers and I'll never go back. Read this http://yfz450.theatvchannel.com/invision/i...showtopic=13062 Edited January 8, 2009 by Titan up Quote

Read this The great paddle thread Link doesnt work Are the straight paddles still fun to slide around with and kick the ass out and such. How do they slide? Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Link doesnt workAre the straight paddles still fun to slide around with and kick the ass out and such. How do they slide? I like straight paddles on all my bikes (banshee, ATC250Rs). I tried Skat-Trak Edge and I will never buy anything but a straight paddle again, even for my trikes. Some say it takes more technique to use the straights, but I have never had any trouble doing whatever I have wanted to do with straight paddles... jayzx10r Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I guess I'm the minority here.... I like V paddles a lot more than the straight paddles overall. I'm more of a duner than dragger (80/20) so for me, I'm all over the Sand Skate II's. I have a set of brand new 21x12x8 8 paddle haulers but haven't even used them but once since I bought them from RMATV last year. I'm gonna tell you to qualify yourself to determine your tire/rim. If you primairly drag, get tires on a 8 inch rim....preferably a set of straight paddle haulers. If you are more of a duner, you will immensely appreciate a set of V paddles on 10 inch rims. I have both but if I could only have one set of tires, they would be V paddles on 10" rims. The haulers SUCK for duning compared to my SKII's. You can dune on haulers, but it's only half as fun!! Besides, it's fun to smoke quads running haulers when you are sporting V paddles... CU in Glamis, Jay From SanD. Quote
donkeypuncher Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 straight paddles do not SUCK for duning. i dune my bike 70% of the time and race/hill shoot 30 % of the time i ride. i have used 10 paddle haulers (straight paddle) for the past 4-5 years and have absolutely no complaints. its not hard at all to whip the rear end of you bike out with straight paddles, just give it gas, and use a little body english to push the back end out. idk, maybe its because ive run them for so long that it seems easy . either way, i think you should run the 8 paddle haulers, with your set up. I run 10 pdl SLS and i can move my bike around wherever I want. All in riding style I guess but Im not a Vpdl fan. Drop front sprocket to 13t (stock 14t). It will help you get moving a little better in the fine glamis sand Quote
