I am running alky for the first time and have just as many people tell me that you don't need to purge as I do people saying that I do need to. Lately I've been just making sure I run it at least every other day, but am getting ready to tear down for cleaning and powder coating.

Does anyone have any tips on the easiest way to do this? I found a purge kit for karts, but I'm not sure it comes with big enough fuel line. Take a look and let me know if you think it'll work.

Easiest way I've found is to take a squirt bottle (like a lucas oil bottle) and 3 pieces of equal lenght fuel line. About 6" each

and a tee.

Put the lines together on each nipple of the tee.

Turn the fuel off and pop the fuel lines off your carbs.

Connect 2 ends of the lines to the carbs, and the other end to the squirt bottle.

Fill the squirt bottle with 20:1 purge gas, turn it upside down and put slight pressure on it by squeezing.

Open power jets all the way if you have them. (not necessary but I do it if I want to purge really well if I'm not riding for a long period of time. Floods the bike out quicker too)

Start the bike.

Continue revving while keeping slight pressure on the bottle until 1 of 2 things happen.

You bog the bike out basically flooding the engine with waaay too much fuel

OR

You see liberal amounts of smoke coming out of the pipes and are sure you have ran enough fuel through it to know you are running on pure gas and have circulated enough rich purge gas through the engine to coat the crank, pistons, etc.

Enjoy

I think that kit in the link looks pretty good, i made the one that i use out of my old petcock from when i put my dual pingal on. I also used a fuel tank off of an old weed eater and some fuel line.

I broke a connecting rod one day racing out at the hill and forgot to drain my carbs, when i went to put my bike back together i took my bowls off of my carbs and you wouldn't belive all the nasty looking crap and green corrosion looking stuff in them.It is very important to purge your bike cause it will also corrode your bearings.I purge mine after every day of riding.

Buy the quick disconnects from Direct drive or RMATV. Get a bottle or some people use their radiator over flow tank....I dont know how much that kit is but you can make one yourself fairly cheap.

Also, purge with the same oil you use for the alky......If you run castor 927 for alky, purge with castor 927 in your gas. 20:1 is a little extreme to me but if you have the money for oil go for it.

Everyone will tell you a different way to do it, but the basic idea is to get the carbs full of gas and run the bike until it doesnt want to run anymore. I like to vary the rpm a little when I do it. You will know when its running on the gas, it will seem like its missing and smoking like crazy.
