mounting cylinders

i was wondering if anybody knows a way to fit the cylinders on the pistons without using a spring compressor? if not, then what size spring compressor do i need to get? thanks.

just use your fingers dogg. ive never used a spring compressor.

Just lube up the rings and the cyls a tiny bit (just a bit easier) then just use your fingers to squeeze the rings in but be sure there lined up right with the locater pins and the cyls will slide over real easy, no need for a compressor.

yeah i tried for like an hour last night with no success because i didnt know about the little locator pins. what did you use for lube? gonna try again later tonight. thanks for the help man

 

also, do you use a stock cylinder base gasket or two seperate gaskets for each cylinder?

There should be two little dots on the side of the piston right where the ring gap should be lined up.

Just use a lil dab of the oil you will mix with your petrol (not needed but will help you) and just work them in but they aint going in if the rings arnt lined up in with pins.

 

First time i put new gaskets in i got the 2 piece base gaskets but use what you need..really no diff IMO but just the thickness will matter.

Haha it's like deja vu' (or however it's spelled). Don't feel bad man I did the same thing until I figured out there were locating pins then they went on pretty easy.

now that i know there are pins in the grooves it was cake work puttin the cylinders back on. the damn things slid right on when i put the rings in the correct position. thanks again guys.

One piece gaskets are good, especially after the cases have been ported, prt matched, blended, whatever... The metal core gaskets w/a kind of rubberized coating are the ones I've been using... No complaints!
