hey guys. friend of mine just bought a 97. It has DG pipes and tors removed. to the best of my knowledge its at 65mm. it also has a twist throttle. Ive been playing with it a little bit. the damn thing will not idle. I checked that the carbs are in sync. I reset the idle screw to 2 turns out. the choke lever is all worn out so i took the one out of my banshee and that didnt help. I also checked the choke tube and doesnt appear to be in bad shape. it will idle if i keep pressure on the throttle. not enough to move the slides. as soon as i let go of the throttle it dies. I tried adjusting the cables to keep a little pressure on the slide and it didnt help. once its off idle the bike runs good. it bogs for a sec. if you idle to long then it will pick up. the bike was purches from a guy in this area. the jetting is for this elevation. the guy said that it has always done this since the twist was installed some years ago? and yea i tried to adjust the cable at the handle bars. I dont know what jets are in the bike. idle jet carries from idle to about quarter throttle right? it seems to do ok in that range. any help would be great.

You said you set the IDLE screws 2 turns out, i'm assuming you meant the air screws. You should not adjust your idle with your throttle cable.Have you tried turning in the idle screws a little at a time on each carb the same amount until the RPM raises.I am assuming that someone installed idle screws after they removed the TORS.

when you say that you reset the idel screw to 2 turns out, are you talking about the pilot screw or idle screw. because there is no set number of turns for the idle screw. there is for the pilot screw wich is 1 1-2 to 2 turns out. other then that, have you checked for any air leaks? spray carb cleaner or wd-40 around the intake and see if the idle changes. even thought the seller thought the jets were correct, i would pull em appart and doulble check. you might want to check the needel clip as well.

another thing. his carbs dont have an external idle screw. mine has external screw and spring set up. they look like stock carbs. mine is a 93 and his is a 97. also the clip on the needle was mentioned. where should it be? I dont remember where it was at off the top of my head.

The tors are taken off and has no idle screws, you need to get the kit and install idle screws on the carbs, you can use the search bar to research how it is done this has been covered many times on how to drill your carbs to install idle screws.

Just to clarify alittle, the tors is were you would adjust the idle on a stock banshee with the big flat bladed screw on top.It is a good thing to have the TORS removed, who ever did the removal should have installed the idle screw kit.

so your saying that when the tors is removed you have to install idle screws? Is this most likely the prob. on this bike? all that was done on my bike when i bought it.

It is definitely the problem, you need to drill your carbs and install a idle screw kit,you can prob. find a cheap kit on ebay or there are guys on here that sell them. When they don't put the idle screw in they use the throttle cable to adjust the idle but you should not do this because when you turn your handle bars it will open your slides this is not safe.
