RUDEDAWG Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I finally began my engine tear down today. I originally thought I detonated a piston, but, when I took that cylinder off I noticed I had a wrist pin bearing failure totally ruining my left cylinder. I don't get it since my top end only has about 3 hrs. on it. I installed new wiseco piston kits on both cylinders, new bore, everything. I would really like to know what would cause the wrist pin bearings to fail so quickly. I am getting ready to ship out my stock jugs to kevin at hjr this week and I really dont want to mess those cylinders up. any suggestions are very much appreciated. Quote
Paddleboy Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 either part failure or improper instalation Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 either part failure or improper instalation Is there a wrong way to install a new wrist pin bearing? Humm.? Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 did you put oil on the bearings and wristpins? Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 did you put oil on the bearings and wristpins? Yup, I soaked the pistons, rings, and bearings as I was prepping everything else. The rod looks like it didn't get damaged at all. Do you think that the rod would of got hot and maybe got some heat marks or something? Thanks loco. Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 your rod is probably fine. sounds like you might have just gotten a bad bearing. Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 Man, that would suck if I got a bad bearing. I just spent alot of money on the top end. Anyone know if I can get better wrist pin bearings than what wiseco sends with their pistons? Quote
C&B Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 ya got a freak bearing. Ive NEVER gotten a bad wrist pin bearing from wiscoe, even after totally fryin the piston, wrist pin didnt fail. Its a freak man.. JMO Quote
2001Stroker Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I would probably call Weisco, and see if they will replace it. Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 i think they might stand by it. ive never heard of a wristpin bearing failing. ive never had any issues with them. Quote
J-Madd Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Me neither. NEVER seen or heard of a wrist pin bearing failure. I've even re-used them without issues. Quote
00tbanshee Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 my buddy just had one do the samething.it only had a couple hrs on it and it was a fresh topend.everything new even a fresh bore.the only thing that we could think that it was a bad wrist pin bearing from the factory.needless to say his one cylinder was junk after this. J-Madd Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Hmmmm..I wonder if Wiseco is having someone else make these bearings; or has changed manufacturers recently? Hopefully not China..... Quote
RUDEDAWG Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 Hmmmm..I wonder if Wiseco is having someone else make these bearings; or has changed manufacturers recently? Hopefully not China..... I sure hope not cause I am putting in a new stroker crank, virgin cyls. ported by hjr. and new pistons. I would shit my pants if it happened again! Quote
