Hello All,

My Banshee is a 2002 with FMF Fatty exhaust, Core2 silencers, 260 main jets, 25 pilot jet, K&N filter and a K&N PowerLid. The bike runs awesome but was thinking about some new reeds. Want that added throttle response. In the past, I only rode bikes, and used Boysen reeds in them. They seemed to work fine, but my question is, has anyone used the VForce 3 reed system? Is it better than just replacing the reeds and using the stock reed cage, or go with the VForce 3 reed system?

Thanks,

Anthony

Honestly you probably won't even notice a difference with reeds. The throttle is a little snappier, but thats about it.

If you are going to do reeds, and you want to notice a difference your going to have to replace the whole cage with either a Boysen, V-Froce, Duncan, bored stocker, etc... If you just replace the petals you for sure wont notice any difference unless your petals are worn out.

It seems like draggers/duners prefer VForce and guys that ride the trails prefer Boyesens, but its mostly just a prefernce.

Cool, thanks for the information. I've decided to replace the stock cage with something that flows a bit more. Any thoughts on the SRP Ram Air Reed Cage? In comparison to the SRP and the VForce, am I splitting hairs in trying to decide? The SRP cage and reeds are a lot less expensive, but if the V-Force-3 are that much better, I have no problem spending a bit more for a better product.

I do a lot of trail riding, but not trails like a utility quad would be on. There's a lot of straight shots that I'd love to have that throttle response to get the hole-shot, and to really pull out of corners hard.

Thanks again.

What is your elevation just out of curiousity? At 260 mains with the K&N filter & lid combo arent you

running a bit lean? Just asking... I'd hate to see a bro burn their Shee up...

Unless you got a heavily modded dunner or drag bike the VF3's are a overkill.. A good set of reeds on the stock cages will do the trick. I prefer the boyessen Pro series (dual stage) reeds myself.. But everyone will have their preference.

Eleveation is 430ft. (Dallas, TX). I check the plugs pretty regularly and it doen't seem to appear to be running lean. What jet size would you recommend for the setup I have? 300 mains and 27.5 pilot, would that make better use of the VForce reed system?

changing your jetting will not make better use of the v-force 3's. having your engine ported will. that mod (porting) would compliment the reeds. the v-forces are more of a drag/dune setup.....so i'm told. if you had your engine ported w/dune/play port job, you would see the 2 mods go hand in hand and maybe see more of a difference then, when going from stock reed cages to the v-forces. my suggestion to you for your reeds, is to get some carbon tech petals, and bolt them up to your stock cages. you don't have enough mods, or heavy mods in my opinion, to need the v-forces. i was thinking the same.....aren't you a bit lean. even tho your in hot dallas, tx....i can't see you running a main smaller than 280 and i would think for sure that you would need 27.5 pilots too. hell if i were you, i probably would be at a 300-320 main and 27.5 pilots, w/needle on middle clip pos.

If your going to rejet it 290-300 mains tops and leave your stock 25 pilots in.

With your setup I would be cautious running anything less than a 280 main, and you may need

a bit bigger. Just looking at the color alone is not the safest way to judge if your jetting is correct.

It could be possible that another circuit is right on the money or a tad rich, thus giving your plugs

an overall good color. Its not to say that your main circuit is lean, but if it were on the lean side

it would suck to not get the full life out of your top end. There are many ways to verify jetting. Plug

chopping, WOT 1-6 plug check, if its lean it may not run 100% @ WOT in 5th or 6th, some guys do

it by how the bike feels/sounds/runs, etc... To get your feet wet blow 5 bucks and chop a set of

plugs. Quick and easy way to see where you stand. Good luck... Oh, and just go with some good

aftermarket reeds on the stock cages...

Cool, thanks for all of the information guys... I'm gonna start withh 300 mains this weekend and see how it goes.

I'm not familiar with Plug chopping, could someone give me a bit of knowledge as to what I need to do it and how it basically works?

Again, thanks for all of the information

Do a search on HQ member BenBB. In his signature click the link for Jetting FAQ. It has everything

about jetting you could ever want to know.

Good luck!

Well, I put 300 mains in, and it absolutely screams! Low end is shot to hell though. I left the stock 25 pilot jets, will going to 27.5 help that out, or is it just some fine tuning to the pilot jet air/fuel mixture screw that is needed?

Also, on the first test ride after the new jets, I ate it hard. Rolled it coming out of a turn, bent the rear part of the frame where the silencers are bolted on to, bent the front left wheel, broke the clutch lever clean off, and the front brake lever is almost in a "U" shape. When I got home from the test ride/crash, my wife said "OH SH*T", I asked what, and she said the back of my shorts had blood coming through them. Pulled the shorts off to assess the damage, and I have a hole the size of a quarter around and deep on my right lower thigh.
