One of the things that makes this complicated is that I don't even know where to begin with the jetting. Trinity stage 2 motor, VM32 carbs... how's 35 sound for the pilots?
not sure about the 32s, might wanna take a look in the jetting section.
Another crazy idea- make sure the petcock is working ! After my engine rebuild my bike wouldn't start....then I found out the "ON" switch was clogged (the reserve worked)

So I've been building a TZ350 replica around a banshee motor - just finished putting it together for a test run, and no start. Advice?
Here's what I know:
- compression's 105 on one side and 120 on the other. The motor's got a decked head and, according to the guy I bought it from, should run on 100 octane; but clearly compression is lower than it ought to be (500ft above sea level).
- Spark seems good
- Fuel is definitely flowing. Just to be sure, I kicked a bit of starting fluid through the carbs and tried starting - no change.
- Using Motul 800 at 50:1 and VIP 110 race gas
So obviously the 110 is unnecessary at the compression I'm at - didn't have a comp tester, borrowed one after it wouldn't start. Would a lower compression motor have trouble starting on 110? If 105 psi is low for stock, and it's got a decked head which ought to take it up to 150+, would it not run at 105/120? Even bump starting it down a hill was unsuccessful.
Other ideas?
Let's suppose the motor's in need of a rebuild. I've got everything I need to put together a serval motor, but can't find a local builder. Know someone in Austin or the surrounding area that can put a solid motor together?
105 should be enough to start the engine.
I would take apart the carbs and make sure everything is clean, especially the pilot jets

the v-force reeds will typically require a bit leaner jetting than OE reeds
why is that? I thought aftermarket reeds leaned out the engine with more air distribution ?

my filters suck like crazy and makes the hissssss goodluck
good point !

Every girl is hot if you turn the lights off

Carbs are synced per the manual.
I got it figured out ended up swapping back in my stock needles and realized i some how managed to mix up pilots and had a 25 in one and 32.5 in the other. Now i got 32.5's in both and stock needles on middle clips and its firing up and running like a champ except the bottom end is really rich so im ordering 27.5-30's.
Bottom end isnt as stout as id expect or like but OMFG it screams up top!
Will 27.5's be enough or will i most likely use the 30's im extremely tired of pulling these carbs.
LOL glad you figured it out bro !
Yes, 27.5 should be good for your setup.
If you want more low end add a bigger sprocket in the rear

Got it up and running again, but it is idling very high. I couldn't find an idle screw and am new to Banshees. How do you adjust the idle on them? Thanks for all the help
The idle screw (one on each carb):

Hello all.. Im new enough to the banshee. just wanted to know what jetting ye think i should be using. my bike has fmf pipes with powercore 2 silencers carbon reeds KnN filter standard engine im preety much at sea level im from ireland.. bike is going well but wont really sit and idle keeps cutting out but will start again first kick! any idea what the problem is there? and also with my left carb the petrol flows out the over flow.. my mate said float stuck but when he blew into the carb through petrol inlet the floats workin but theres a slight bit of air getting threw.. could this be the problem for the overflow i was thinking maybe a seal gone? Thanks in advance for feedback!!
Start with a 27.5 pilot jet and 300 main. Then do a plug chop to check if it's rich or lean. If it's too rich bump the main down to a 290, then 280, etc until it's perfect.
It's leaking gas because the floats are sticking. Clean the float needle, make sure there is nothing inside the float needle hole. Set the float height.
Do one carb at a time so you don't mix up the parts. After the install, sync the carbs by adjusting the cable at the top of the carbs. Delete the TORS if you haven't already. Also, adjust the air screw so it's 2 turns out.

Maybe we can get his wife a really really small t shirt : )
Adam
LOL....a really really small white T-shirt

if it runs good and you don't hear the noise any more, I wouldn't worry about it
-
Just make them pull the same.
I did, she runs like a top

not for a stock bike. Usually clean ones with mods go for $ 2200-3000 in my area
If you're going to buy a Banshee, you better know a lot about two stroke engines..... lol

sux donkey ballz....but if it seems too good to be true, it probably is
But if you're like me, you low ball the seller and point out stupid mechanical problems

Have a 2003 with stock engine, no porting, 400 feet elevation, stock pipes with DG silencer, bored .20 over, carbon fiber reeds, pro design foam filter with no lid, TORS removed... fresh rebuild
Had issues a few weeks ago and Jeff from FAST told me that my mains were too small and I had to bump up to 27.5 pilots because I had the air screws .5 turns in (would die in gear in less I did so)... at this time I had the stock filter/cage and lid on
Took the lid off with the prodesign foam set-up, put in 27.6 pilot and 260 mains.......
synced the carbs prior too... had the air screws 1.5 turns out and when I put it in gear it had a lot of hesitation and fell on its face a few times.... had to turn the screws in to .5 to get it to take off and drive decent, but still not great...
would the lid off and this new airfilter set-up effect my pilot that much... need to bump up to 30 pilots???
help please....
You need to do a plug chop to see if it's running lean or rich

BILL's !
I love the sound and performance.

k what would be the the other sizes
270-310 is a good start & 27.5 pilot

Thanks what I figured I'd end up using after about 15min of irritation. Ran out of daylight gettin other stuff ready I'll purchase one tomorrow though
mighty-vac !!

I was wondering if a coil going bad would make it seem as if one of the plugs is fauled and then it runs great and the not so great only the one cylinder seems to be doing it.. Any way to test it. Also the plug on that side is black. I have both air screws at 1 3/4 turns out 210 main jet and the rest is stock with fresh top end rebuild no boring just new rings n pistons. K&n air filter with stock air box and lid. Stator was also replaced as it was cracked Just seems as the one side don't always fire correctly.. any ideas before i buy a new coil.
Primary coil resistance should be 0.28-0.38 Ohms

Make sure your gauge isn't a POS....seriously, I just rebuilt my top end and the gauge was faulty ..... LOL
-
I would agree, I think the problem is with the pilots.
Have you sync'd the carbs with a vac sync tool? Have you sync'd the slides so they rise at the same time ?
-
I would have it fixed....tell those asshats you want a refund or a free fix !
-
Only mods are Toomey pipes and Boyeson reeds. Not sure what the jetting is. Carbs are sliding in correctly, and it still has TORS. Pilot jets have been taken out and cleaned.
Real important to know the current jetting and air to fuel mixture.
Once you fix the carbs you need to do a plug chop to make sure it's not running lean

IT LIVES ! The damn petcock was plugged up and it wasn't getting any fuel. After figuring that out, I turned it onto reserve, and one of the carbs spewed fuel all over.
Come to find out, the needle that attaches to the float can only go one direction LOL....so I fixed that, and she started in 2 kicks.
NOW I'm tuning the carbs with a sync ....does anyone know what vac it should pull at idle ?
first banshee- low compression :(
