Ok guys fist off thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I pulled the carburator off the side I am having problems with and amazingly it was the cleanest carb I have ever seen on anything. Went ahead and cleaned it anyway. Reinstalled it. Checked reeds while I had carb off they were fine. Carbs were bad outa sync. Repaired that installed new plugs and tested for vaccum leak with starting fluid. Runs alot more even than it did but problem is still present. So I'm sure it's due to the low compression on that side. I'm probably goin to ride it a few more times and go ahead and pull her down and freshen top end up. Is 6 years old it's time anyway. I really feel like I got a good bike all things aside. I hear it's hard to find one that's not ever been into and even has stock tires chain and sprockets on top of that. I really love this bike plan on being a part of this forum a long time.

I know what needs to be done just got to do it. I do enjoy some strange I'm just venting frusteration after spending that kind of money to buy it I wanted it to be a little while at least before I had to work on it but it's better to get a virgin banshee that needs a little work than one that's been rebuilt till the bolts wear out in my opinion.

what do you do for a living?

I enjoyed everyones replies. You guys are trip. I'm going to fix it and keep it for ever. It got dropped to second priorty on my to do list when my truck got sick. I still think about it often and as soon as get my truck back going I'm sure I will regain the fever to get it rite. Hell If I forgot about it all together I wouldent be on here now. Just talkin tryin to get to know everyone. No matter if I fix it in two days or two years I will alwas keep it and when I can't ride it I can talk about it on here.

Compression tester adapter thread size?
Drturbodiesel replied to bansheechas's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I can't call what the size is but I have a mac tools compression tester and it's the same adapter I use at work on modern hemi engines. I know this won't help unless u happe to own a vehicle with a hemi in it or you could look up what size fits a 2oo6 charger with a 5.7 hemi. Sometimes automotive specs are easier to find. Hope your results were better than my first compression test on my banshee I have only owned a week. Good luck -
Well guys I don't know if it happens to anyone else. Maybe I am just crazy. I bought my very first banshee a week ago. I have always wanted one since I was young. I ran a tank of gas thro it last weekend and figured out it was not running just rite and needs work. The first part of the week it was still warm outside and I was interested in repairing or at leat diagnosing it. This morning it was a touch cool outside and has been all day. Strangely somehow just that quick all my motovation to mess with it dissapeared. And I started questioning why I bought it in the first place. Has this ever happen to anyone else ? Will these feelings pass? It may also have something to do with the fact I am a automotive technician and I am flat out sick of workin on crap all day every day. That being said I know I should expect to have to do a few things when I first buy something but not anything major. Banshees will stay rite for a long time if u ever get them rite and take care of them I think.

i appricate your imput bro i have mixed opinions and i really dont know wich one to go off of. like i said i have only had the bike a week and have not even paid for it yet. it will run correctly on both sides or i will not have it. just hate to start a rebuild before i even pay for the bike its self. have always wanted a banshee got to say i am somewhat dissapointed in my first experience but i will also admit i loose patitents. i only hope that if i ever get it rite it will stay that way as much as i take care of things and as ticky as i am. thanks again to all

today makes a week i have had this machine or i promise i would have data to compare

Will shee run a little bit longer
Drturbodiesel replied to Drturbodiesel's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
im glad you see the logic in what i have going on. today makes a week i have had this machine so thats why i dont have any data to compare to recent tests. when previous owner bought it two years ago before he took it away to where it was till i got it i recall the spark plug boot on the good side was defective and or missing maybe leaving the right side to do most all the work and maybe thats why its weak now who knows.. also crappy air filter seal cage to box had maybe been partially briched and injested some dust. anyway i will get her to run even one way or another i would just about bet anything this is the same top end that and everything else that it was built from yamaha with so its prolly about time to rebuild. anyway thanks to all the mixed replies. -
Left cyl 130 after approx 5 kicks right cyl 120 after approx 10 kicks. It wanted to dwell around 112 but did max out at 120. Spitting problem is on right cyl. Bone stock everything . If throttle is held slightly above idle in netural u can hear that side poof/spit out pipe and sounds like it's preigniting at engine to me. Have checked for external vaccum leaks with wd40 and none found. Plugs look the same and kinda fat. I plan to clean and sync carbs set idle air to base setting install new plugs and retest.

Thanks guys for all the info. I apologize for making two posts on the same basic topic I will try to fix that on computer tommorow. My phone version is different. As far as my problem goes I plan to clean carbs sync carbs if nec and idle air mixture. I will then throw in a new set of plugs and retest. I will report my findings. -
I can't see how a leakdown test as done on banshees by pressurizing the entire crankase could possibly tell anything about piston and ring condition. I do see where it could find possible vaccum leaks on seals and gaskets. If u were to do a automotive style leakdown test it would not b accurate due to ports and defenintly blow all your oil seals. Anyway my banshee is spitting/ misfiring out the right cyl on transition from off idle to midrange rpm. Idles fine starts fine great upper rpm pull. I will not tolarate anything but perfection from any of my machines cause I'm OCD like that. And I do love this banshee only had it a week but it's going to act rite wheather it likes it or not.

In a quest to find out what's wrong with my shee I read forums and consulted local mechanics and I see both sides of the story. On here I read to check compression by installing guage holding throttle and kicking to max psi. That's what I did. I thought I found my problem by that test. Today I bumped into a retired Honda tech and explained what I done and my results. His reply was those numbers don't mean nothing cause all I was testing was above the ports. So concerned but yet seeing some logic in what he said I went to another cycle repair shop and explained to him what I had done and what the Honda tech said. His responce was well that's kinda correct but not totally. Is there no other way to 100percent verify engine condition besides teardown? I honestly think everybody is rite to a certain extent. I usually like to rule out base engine problems before futher diagnosis. Doesent seem to be any real way to on this application or it just depends on who you ask . Your opinions and recomendations are welcome.

Drturbodiesel replied to Drturbodiesel's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
i spoke with a retired honda tech today. he said the compression test method i used dident mean jack cause i was only testing above the ports. i went to my regular cycle shop and he said basicly the same thing. he told me to clean carbs put in some fresh plugs and let her rip. forgot to mention the retired honda tech said i prolly have a stator problem and that banshee was bad about stator problems burning one side up before the other. i am kinda lost at this point. its hard to ignore experience but cant put it over logic. my banshee will run perfect one day unless i get mad and sell it. -
If no problem found with reeds I would check compression. Mine is doin sometning similar but out the exhaust. Any time you have a running/performance problem I would always rule out base engine first. It only takes a few minutes and it will keep you from chasing other possibilities if there not the culprit. That's just my opinion. Good luck

Drturbodiesel replied to Drturbodiesel's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Thanks for the reply. I kinda knew it could go either way on the piston just wanted a second opinion. My plugs look ok maybe a touch on tha fat side. As soon as I noticed the problem I sprayed wd 40 all over intake and around base gaskets etc with engine running no leak found. I can ocasonally hear a little piston slap at idle on that side. I am very ticky about how my stuff runs I guess from being a automotive tech all my life. Previous owner though everything was fine. Anyways are all banshees loud around the water pump area at idle? From what I can tell it's normal charchteristics of this machine. -
Hello fellow banshee owners. I'm a new member first post. I got a 05 bone stock doesent look like engine has ever been into. I noticed that right cyl was spitting and sputtering at times in lower to mid range. Idles fine pulls hard thro upper rpm. I decided to check compression before I started messing with fuel spark etc. Found left cyl to have 130 right 112 cold. It will finally build 120 after a lot of kicks. Anyways it almost winter would it hurt to run it the rest of this fall or am I risking more sever engine damage? Also are 05 cylinders lined or can they be bored ? Thanks
