  1. Yep, this is the one. Thanks guys. Was really hoping to avoid having to pull the motor. I'm going to go ahead and replace the shifter seal while I'm there. I've also read about a neutral light block off that has a tendancy to crack and leak. My stock piece seemed in good shape when I threw on my case saver last year. Where can I go to get the aluminum one I've been reading about, and what is it called? Thanks again guys.
  2. I've been reading several other old threads on here about leaky seals and am pretty sure I have my problem narrowed down to the countershaft seal. Can this be replaced like the shifter shaft seal without splitting the cases? It doesn't leak while sitting, just a small leak while riding. Can usually ride it all day and still safe on the dipstick, but it's making a mess and I want to get it fixed since It's parked for the winter.
  3. Thanks guys. I kinda figured the problem was with the lack of air flow at slow speeds and high rpm hill shoots and side hill playing. The banshee's basically stock except for t-5's and I was just concerned when I shut it down and could hear the coolant burbling. I made sure to keep it moving after that. The plan is to get an aftermarket impeller, and to change out the coolant. I have a bottle of water wetter. Would you guys recommend just adding that to regular coolant, or should I look into engine ice? My radiator looks good, no flattened fins or other signs of abuse from rocks or bugs. Would you recommend an aftermarket radiator for a basically stock banshee?
  4. Got the first ride in and had a blast. I now realize why people love banshees so much. Nice comfortable 80 degree weather at the dunes, but it didn't take long playing on the side of a dune or down in the trees before it would heat up. I could hear the coolant bubbling up and it filled the overflow. After that I made sure to give decent cool down time and made sure to keep air going through the radiator, never had another problem. I've got an inline temp guage from esr I need to install to keep track of the temp. What's a good operating temperature range for these motors? Tips for keeping a cool running banshee?
  5. Thanks for the reply. Any way to check on the clutch without pulling the cover? I've only ridden it around the storage complex which is concrete, so no high speed runs, but the clutch seemed tight for at least that little bit. trans fluid change is also on the to-do list. I hope to get it in the dirt this weekend to do some plug chops. I figure if any jetting adjustments need to be made, I'll be cleaning the carbs then anyway. Thanks again man. This is the stuff I'm looking for.
  6. I bought an '05 about a month and a half ago. It's my second banshee, and from what I can tell it's stock except for T5's and a k&n. I had nothing but problems with my '87, and never had an outing without some sort of break down. I promised myself I'd go through this one front to back before I took it 2.5 hours to the dunes just to find out it had something wrong with it. When I bought it it needed some cosmetic work. The silencers were beat to hell and held on with bailing wire. The taillight had been replaced with an older style that was also held on with bailing wire and had the wires cut. I replaced the taillight with the factory piece an re wired it so now the taillight/brake light works properly. I also replaced the stingers and silencers with the kit from Toomey. Installed a new set of handlebars and got the key switch mounted back in the factory location. The new factory decals are on the way, then she'll look good as new again. Now that all of the cosmetics are taken care of, I want to check over the mechanicals of the quad and make sure it's fit to ride for multiple day outings. I've cleaned and oiled the airfilter and installed a new outerwear. I just ordered a new chain and Tmdesigns case saver. It's been sitting in the same spot for this whole time and no oil spots or other fluids on the floor. Coolant looks good, and it starts and seems to run fine. The frame looks good, and it has a full length aluminum skid plate. I just want this to be a good dependable stocker. Is there anything else I should check on the quad before taking her out? I'm planning on hitting the dunes with it on October 1st.
  7. My '79 SWB And new bumper And since there's already a Bullitt Mustang in here, here's a pic of mine
  8. This. I also dig the red and black look. I usually prefer to do the frame one color, then the suspension to match the plastics, or polished/chromed, and the hubs matching the frame.. That's just me though. Too much of one color and it all just blends together.
  9. I had a set but never installed them before I sold my '87. I saw the quad with them on it later and they looked/fit nice. The only thing I didn't like about Laker and Fullbore was that the front end is all one assembly. If you ever need access to the radiator, you have to pull the whole front fender assembly off, instead of just pulling the radiator cover. Others seem not to be bothered by it, but I'm partial to the stock look.
