this guy knows what hes talking about. listen to him -
i have more than one banshee. where im located, theres banshees forsale everywhere. i have a old air strip where we dragrace and we trail ride all the time. my 1999 banshee was passed on to me from family and is for draging. my 1998 is one i just got and took parts off my 1995 and put on my 98 because my 95 has a bad crank and i dont want to replace it as long as i have one to ride. currently my 1999 banshee is forsale on craigslist. i dont drag race much anymore and figure i should sell to someone who needs a serious drag banshee. and i want to get money to build 1 totally woods banshee. im asking for help with mods to make it the best in the woods.

it was at a drag strip dumbass, yes i run 87 octane and have for 8 years with no problems. it wasnt the widening kit. i ride trails i dont want it wider? there was a set of fronts for 350$ and i bought a rear seperate for 200$. ill start running 93 now that it melted a piston from the crank seals being bad from sitting for a few years at my dads house. now that ive had it out and rode at some local play tracks, i ran it hard, and now im pretty sure its all good.

so far all my new mods and current mods are P C pipes, v force reeds, trail ported, pro lite wiseco pistons, 28mm carbs, trinity stage VII cool head, 20cc domes, 2nd cooler, advanced timing set to +4, extended swinger, did 520 o ring chain, 15/40 gearing, 22x11x10 holeshot xcts on the rear, cheap ebay suspension improovement, lonestar steering stem, anti vibrate, renthal fat bars, auto meter temp gage, uni 2 stage filter, holes drilled in air box, dark grey powder coated frame, motion pro twist throttle, hinson racing clutch, have a racing cdi and make around 10500rpms, bored .020 over, soon to be .040 because of melted piston. thats pretty much it, just some decal work and bumpers and headlight covers. thats pretty much it. i run the lowest octane grade pump gas with klotz oil. mixed to 32:1. ive thought about the +2 a arms but i dont want it to be wider on a trail. i want more power if its possible. make it a more of a 450 dirt bike killer. now its a rocket in the woods the way its set up, and i have no problem opening it up on a back road, on the strip ive hit as high as 103mph. i didnt know if running a bigger rim like a 12 inch rim, would that help any? i like the big tire because ground clearence and it also give me a little more speed from it. whats some things i can do to help it perform better without changing my gearing or tire size?

so i take it you dont drag race if you have the trail port? the best trail mods would be your suspension, you could always get a better pipe than fmf. depending on how hard you ride it.

building my banshee better, questions.

i ported it myslef at the machine shop i work for. it made a huge difference, but i just got it all back together after changing all the seals in the crank case and powdercoating the frame. i got it all back together and broke it in and ran it pretty hard for the past three days, and im just looking to squeeze more performance out of it with out having to take the whole engine apart again. i ride on nothing but trails and a old grass air strip where we drag. i dont want to have it killer because i know a drag banshee is not going to ride the trails worth shit because of all the power. and im not looking to gain that much speed, maby 1 tooth up on the front or 2 down in the rear. i just dont know if im making enough power to turn the harder gearing? and i dont know about the bigger carbs, ive heard the stock carbs give the best bottomend performance and thats what everyone is looking for in the woods as long as they can reach a high speed. -

my mods are: trinity cool head 20cc domes, bored to .020, pro circuit pipes, pro design timing plate set at +5, wiseco pistons, stock carbs, v force 3s, stock gearing but am looking for more speed. and fat bars with lonestar anti vibrate steering stem, holeshot 22x11x9 tires on it. thats it. -
what mods can i do to give me more speed, and a better sound, and still be badass on the trails. i need help. i run pro circuits on all my 2 strokes, but maby its time to switch if there is a better off road performing pipe? any suggestions?

my carbs were set up perfect tho. the plug was a nice crisp brown. what would it be in the carbs?

opinion: Banshee VS. Yz 450r

im not sure if the motor is fliped or not. i know my drag banshee eats it up pretty easily. my buddy jeff races the bike all the time and it usually is a win for the bike then the banshee then the bike then the banshee. it will be the first race now that the bike has cam work done tho. -
well what would it be in the topend? the coolhead would leak anti-freeze. and i always put brand new seals and gaskets on everytime.
-
i already have the tors gone. i cross up to about 2' also. but not often. i dont wanna have carbs that are way to big for it, but i thing the stocks are a little small now.

no he said dirt bike. -
1998 yamaha banshee- trail port, pro circuit pipes, 28mm carbs, noss cool head 21cc domes, timing +4, bored .040. VS. 2011 Yz 450- fmf mega bomb, high comp piston, cam work. this race is a light 1/2 mile slightly up hill race. i wanna know if my buddy or the 450r will win? any opinions will help. thanks.

also i burnt the electrode off the spark plug, which is from predetination- meaning it could be an air leak or the timing. so i ajusted both. hopefully it was just the air leak. strange thing is it ran great all day until i crossed a creek. after tht it burnt up. would some watter on the crank seal on the fly wheel side ruin the seal?
-
i get exactly what your sayin, it was my dads 4 wheeler but hes a little to old to be riding it so he gave it to me after 4 years of just sitting at his house and he said that he rode it 1 full year with the timing that advanced. so when i burnt up the piston, i figured it would have been a chance of both the crank seals and the timing that caused it and i wanted to get some opinions on the timing so i dont have to throw 300$ into a new top end. me and my wife trail ride alot and i really dont wanna get far away from the house and burn it up again. that was my only problem.
-
what size of carbs should i run on it? ive heard of running without the lid on the airbox, if id do that what kind of filter should i use?
-
autometers do work, i have one on mine but i have a custom made second cooler that its hooked to.
-
but will it perform any different? meaning will it run better or no?
-
on my banshee, i just rebuilt it over the winter. i took it out with friends on probabily a 6 or 8 hour ride and it was fine all day, i was on trails all day and wasnt that hard on it. but heading home it burnt a hole in the left piston. i changed the crank seals and all. im running stock carbs, pro circuit pipes, drilled air box, v force reeds, bored .020 ovr, pro-lite pistons, trinity stage VII cool head, 20cc domes, B8ES spark plug. and im wondering is +6 timing is too much for it? any help?
-
what about the motor though? what can i do to help there?
-
what is a shorter swingarm gonna do for me? any ideas for good suspension?
-
my trails are actually pretty wide. i do have a +3 swingarm extension i made. i put that on along with renthal fat bars. and big wide holeshots xcts that hook well. kinda soft stock suspension, and did some mild porting my self (knife edged intake port) it ripps hard and is really fast. i want it to be the best trail banshee thats fast and quick.
-
i just traded my 2001 yamaha banshee for anouther 1998 banshee, this is going to be my woods bike that i ride on trails. i ride with 499exs, trx 450rs and its pretty much rough trails or a gas or power line. this banshee is pretty stock and idk if ill be able to beat the 450rs tht easy. all it has is pro circuit pipes off my old banshee and a cool head with 19cc domes. everything else is stock. i was wondering what the best mods would be to make it fast and quick as hell in the woods. i dont need no 110mph like before haha. but i do wanna be the leader of the pack and start fresh with this banshee. thanks for any comments.
