1.
I tested it on my 350 cc trail bike. -3hp vs a stock air box with your standard k&n. Why spend $100.00 on something that reduces hp?
2. This^^^ on my 350 trail bike with mild port, stock carbs, pro circuits, I lost 3 hp almost the whole curve. Put the stock box back on..blam! 3-4 hp came right back. That's all I needed to see. Ebayed that sucker.
3. You can count on about a 3 hp LOSS going from a stock modded box with proflow & k&N to the CFM aluminum air box on a health 350 ish cc stock stroke motor. Probably be more on a 421 serval.
4.

Yep. The stocker IS definitely better than the cfm one. But whatever blows your skirt up.
5. Is this one of those " my FRIEND has the clap..what should he do about it so I can tell him" kinda deals?
6.
I've talked to a few builders about and most of them have no problem recommending stock impellers. Most failures can be attributed to something CAUSING the impeller to fail. Usually over extended service interval or other issues causing repeated overheating (jetting etc etc). Not knocking billet impellers. .just think the OEM ones get a bad reputation unnecessarily.
7.
Not to discourage you, but I have a 4mm serval, 10mm cub, and a trail 350..All on stock impellers with no heating issues. All im saying is if you put a stock one in there, it's doesn't mean it'll overheat. But buy whatever helps you sleep at night. Good luck with the build btw!
8. Depends on who you talk to I guess. I've never had one fail. But I change mine out every other teardown. Lots of people have them in 5-10yrs without problems. But I won't push it that far in my stuff.
9. Nothing wrong with a new stock one either.
10.

Refer to post #4......
11. If it'd make you sleep better you can easily fab a splash guard to fit under your pods . That'll protect them from all but the deepest mud puddles. Those aluminum air boxes are junk. You can also run a stock air box with a kn filter and proflow and mod the crap out of it. Either option is better that those aluminum airboxes.
12. Mattoon has hide-a-keys for 10.00 shipped
13. All I know to do is smother the carbs or pop it in gear. That's why I never start mine without a chain. Is there anything else you can do?
14. I haven't had much time to sort it out yet, but I think I was running too much tire . Next thing I'm going to try is a little less tire and more gear.
15. Because I tend to sleep at the line and was still working on my setup. Wheelying isn't winning.
16. Btw,10-15 yes ago we used to run a small percentage of acetone with our alky to make cold weather starting easier. It worked great..but I don't recommend it. If it's that cold , I don't ride.
17. Sounds normal to me depending on how cold it is.
18. What gives away the level of expertise that the OP has, to me, is this> Every guy that is TRUELY fast that I've talked to all say the same thing.. look at the chassis/tire setup. You can have all the power in the world, but if you aren't applying it correctly , its pretty useless. So instead of looking for alternative fuels to give you the "edge" in a race, i think you should be looking at the rest of your setup 1st. So, lets see your chassis, let us know what form of racing you compete in...because if you aren't in a competitive racing environment, then you're wasting your time. If you don't already have a "dialed in" chassis/tire combo,,your wasting your time. Make sense? There's no point of even entertaining nitro unless you already meet at LEAST those 2 criteria.
19. 4th gear on a +10 swinger... still losing though!
20. That's a lot of compression. There is a good read on running nitro on PS. It includes what mods are needed. I'd suggest starting off upgrading to methanol 1st, get proficient at that., THEN start looking at adding nitro to that. From what I've read and researched the fuel system requirements of nitro and methanol are more compatible than race fuel and nitro. But it'd be better for you to read the thread I mentioned and educate yourself ..then decide for yourself.
21.

Haha. Truth. The next question would be more powa than what? If he's running pump gas, I'd suggest baby steps and working my way up the "fuel chain". I think nitro and methanol would be cool, but I'm just now real comfortable with straight methanol, so maybe next year...
22. The 1st question you need to answer is why you want to run it.
23.
What 12stags do you have for sale?
24.

What is this "potato brah" of which you speak?
