chariot reed cages with stock intakes?
bigtizzles replied to bigtizzles's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Ok, I cut it off. Got one side done, the bike ran a lean at WOT before the new reeds and cages so I stepped the main up one size. Gotta do the other side this weekend. -
I actually found a thread with this exact title when I used the search function and I believe I got my answer. I was installing my chariot reed cages and the boot "stuffer" or whatever the hell it is won't let me install the factory intake because the rubber is made to go into the factory cage and my chariot cage won't allow that. Can I simply cut off the rubber so the intake will fit flush against my new cage? While I'm at it should I try to port the rubber out with like a dremel or something? Or would I be pissing in the wind?

ok, i found a bottom end rebuild walkthrough that had some decent pics, so I think i figured it out. But what keeps the gear from going past the gear that it needs to mate with to start the motor?
-
Ok so I took the clutch cover off of my banshee to put in my new billit water pump impeller. That was super easy, but when I took the cover off, the goddamn kickstart gear assembly fell out. How does this thing go back in? There is a lobe on the back of the shaft that will strike the case when the kickstarter is pushed down. I cant find a good picture, don't know anyone that has a banshee, and don't have a manual. This sucks...

so what about the ATF? -

how about the high friction ATF, or Ford type F ATF. -

ok, I won't use it. I saw some other guy say he used 10w40 royal purple. What should I use that I can pick up from the auto parts store? There is no atv dealer for like 20 miles. I like using lemonade as antifreeze cause I figure its the same as using water and if you run out of shit to drink when your out riding you can........yeah. -
Ok, I know there is alot of opinions on this subject so I wanna keep this simple. I just wanna know if I can put good old 10w30 royal purple synthetic motor oil in my banshee transmission. I wanna make sure its not gonna destroy anything. Some people said you can put just about anything in there, others say use ATF. The manual says SAE 10w30? I know it might not be the best thing, but will it work??

Thanks for the info, i'll have to pick up another couple jets just in case. I'll let you know what happens.

I've heard that reeds don't require re-jetting. I'll do a plug burn. I have 280 mains from the Toomey kit. What size would I wanna go with?
-
I realize it uses more oil. It also uses less gas so wouldn't it run a tad leaner and be more likely to detonate than a richer mixture? Or does a heavier oil mix run cooler?

Hey guys i'm back from Afghanistan and i have a chariot cool head with 20cc Noss domes and chariot reed cages with boysen duel stage reeds to put on my banshee. None of the shit came with instructions. I think i can figure it out though. I live at 4300 ft elevation and can only get 90 octane gas around here, will I be ok with these domes? The rest of my motor is stock except the T5 exhaust kit i have. Jetting seems spot on the way it is now. I asked Noss machine about the domes and i'm pretty sure they said i should be able to run as small as 19's on pump gas and be fine, but I must have deleted their e-mail. I was talking with the local yamaha shop and i told the guy I ran 32:1 gas mix, and he told me after I installed the stuff to bump it down around to 28:1 to be "safe". After I left it didn't make sense to me. Wouldn't that kinda lean it out? I guess he was refering to the dome size. What was he talking about?

how hot should my banshee be running?
bigtizzles replied to 5.0bronco's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Hot as balls, unless you have a cool head. Probably around 200-220. Cool head 180-190. Mine used to blow antifreeze on the pipes after a good hard lap around the track in the middle of summer bone stock. There is tons of posts about this. Google it bro, good luck -
Thats about what I paid for my 05 brand new never serviced never started with full factory warrenty last summer. Oh, there was over 600 dollars in bolt-on shit on it. Gotta love the combination of over stock and a horrible economy. Old girl sat on the showroom floor for 5 years.
-
Doesn't anyone have anything to say about this??
-
I have A-arm guards on my 05 shee. If I get extended A-arms, will they fit? I figure they should be about the same size, there would just be a little exposed tubing where they bolt on. Only looking to get +2's.

Ok, so 20cc at 4000 feet will give me a 140 comp and I should be safe up to 160 on 90 octane?
-
Ok, thanks for the info. What kind of jetting do you run at that altitude?
-
So, 20cc or 21cc? Is there really that much difference? It gets pretty hot here, and 4300 ft elevation. I'm probably gonna buy this thing this week.

I just did this for the first time to jet my carbs, so if you still need help let me know. It was not hard at all. I was kinda worried to mess it up, but when I got done, removing the carbs was about a 2 out of 5 on the scale of difficulty if you are mechanically inclined. Just take the top of the carbs off like the lid off a bottle of pop, and the needle and slide will come out of the top and you can just swing it to the side or wrap a bag around it if your worried about dirt getting on it. You can put it together later and they will still be synced (if they were to begin with). There is a video on youtube if you search "Banshee carb syncing" that will show you how to get them damn close if you wanna check it. If you still need help let me know. I'm a noob too

So the banshee had 23cc domes stock right? If I just wanted the cool head for the "cool" benefits, then I would just run 23cc domes then, right? And if I moved somewhere else I would just swap out the domes for my new elevation?
-
The most octane you can get anywhere around here is 90 (I guess because of the elevation???). They have 91 on base, but I find it hard to believe they truck special gas with one more octane to base from far away. Its probably just the pumps labeled wrong. I get the gas on base for peace of mind anyway. So would 19cc domes still work with shitty gas, or should I go with 20cc?

I'm in the Airforce and we are at Clovis NM, its around 4300 feet.. I like the chariot heads cause of the price and they use stock studs and give you nice acorn nuts for free. I might look into doing the DIY timing mod in the stickies. I heard 20cc is good on stock motor.

I just rode my shee for the first time today with the T5 exhaust kit. It ran amazing, plugs looked perfect. My friend had a brand new yfz 450x that just had its first break in oil change. I smoked it no problem. Anyway that was my first big mod, and now i'm looking at a cheriotperformance cool head. I was wondering what size domes I should get to still run on pump gas and also what brand. We are at 4200 feet elevation. Will I have to jet the bike after this mod? I used the "perfect jet kit" from toomey so i'm running 270 mains. I could probably do a little better cause these are for 2500 ft and up. Not too precise. I'm officially addicted.

i finally found a video on youtube of a guy explaining jetting, and it looks pretty easy. I wonder where I should set the needle. Like what notch to put it in?
