  1. Does it start when hot? Cos if it does, switch your float bowls ( they were probably switched ) , most people overlook this.
  2. They are not identical. The one has a jet for the choke, the other not. The one with the jet goes on the carb with the choke. http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?...;hl=float+bowls Take a flashlight and shine down each passage ( the bigger passage ), one should have a jet in it, looks similar to a pilot jet, also screws out. You should also be able to see, the one passage is completely blocked off, while the other one has a small hole on the bottom of the passage to allow fuel into it.
  3. Check the float bowls, if they are switched, the bike will be a bitch to start for no apparent reason. You may have switched them when doing the jetting?? Dont know, just a suggestion. http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?...;hl=float+bowls
  4. The other thing you can try, swop your plugs, If that doesn't work, swop your plug leads around, see if the problem moves to the other cyl, then it is spark related, my bet is on the air fuel. What plugs are you running btw, they not perhaps too cold? Oh and the needles on the slides should be on the middle clip, groove nr3 ( from top or bottom doesn't matter)
  5. Check your air/fuel screws. Turn them in to seat lightly, then turn them out 1 turn, the bike should be warm for this. Set the idling up a bit, Then turn one out very slowly until the revs pick up, do the same with the other cylinder. Then go back to the first one and do then same again, the Shee should be almost perfect when it idles at the highest rpm point. So when the revs don't pick up any more, you should be good. Give it a shot. Afterwords just set your idling back to normal. Thats how I tune my bike, works for me. According to spec it should be around 1.5-2.0 turns out, may vary depending on if pilots are too rich or too lean. Mine also backfired, but I just tweaked the air fuel screws, ran like a dream after that.
  6. I'm not sure on this but do Banshees have thermostats? If so, is yours working right?
  7. What size are your pilots?
  8. Hey man. Mine did the same, float levels were too low - which caused surging, check the air fuel - stopped the backfiring, then it was fine. Just check your float levels and float bowls - make sure float bowls are not they not switched around. Then check the choke circuit, check the o ring on the plunger, check that the plunger works fine etc. The choke tube connecting the 2 carbs, is it in place? Oh yes, check that the slides are in the right way too. These are only some ideas, all are basic, but sometimes we overlook the easier stuff, I'm not a professional - haha.

  10. Dude, Check your float bowls!! Very important that they are right way around.
  11. Cut mine on Sunday, not a very good pic though. Im pleased with the result.
  12. My bike did something similar, it was my float levels. Have you checked them?
  13. Thanks for the welcome J.J.
  14. Some pics
  15. Thats how mine look.
  16. 05.Banshee.SE are you talking bout the jet in the float bowl? The one which looks like a pilot jet? This is something many people overlook as they don't even know about this, I didn't, till a someone told me to check, my bike took a good 20 - 30 kicks with the bowls switched around, now 1-3 kicks As I understand, when your choke is open, the cylinder without the choke draws fuel through that jet and then through the connecting pipe between the carbs. So if the bowls are switched the choke circuit is messed up.
  17. I also learnt the hard way. Oh well. I mean who looks for a jet in a float bowl?? Not me, hahahaha.
  18. Yes, one with the jet goes on the choke side, the tube for the non choke side is just blank, no jet, nothing. I think it's blocked off in the float bowl, if you compare it to the other one. As for the nrs, im not sure. It will probly work, you will just have to find out which cylinder is nr 1.
  19. Hey guys, This is how it works. You see those holes on the float bowl ( a big one and a smaller one ). Take a torch and chech the big hole, one of the two float bowls will (should ) have a jet in it ( looks like a pilot jet ), that float bowl goes on the carb with the choke ( that carb has a brass tube going into the float bowl which the other carb doesnt). It's hard for me to explain, let me know if I need to clarify anything. p.s my carbs also have pipes in both float bowls, bot only one on the carb itself. Arnt you perhaps confused? Good luck!!
  20. Hey guys, sorry, made sense in my own mind cos I knew what I was trying to say. Like mun2frio and jinx44 said, on the carb with the choke, you'll notice a brass pipe which goes into the float bowl ( the long rod mun2frio was talking about ), now if you look on the float bowl where that brass pipe slips in , there is a jet right at the bottom in the float bowl, barely visible. You will notice a small hole on the bottom of the, lets call it a "well" which lets fuel into that passage, the other float bowl is just blanked off. If your float bowls are switched, you WILL kick the bike 20 times. I learnt the hard way.
  21. Guys, sum1 told me this, I had no idea. The 2 float bowls on the Banshee differ, one has a jet in it the other one is just blocked off. Jet goes by the one with the choke. It screws with your choke if they are switched, causes hard starting. Just a heads up, although you guys probly know!!
  22. Thanks for the advice! I stay in South Africa, The last while the temp went up to around 35 degrees. Im going to order a set of 290's and 27's on Monday. Im currently rebuilding the bike, should be done around Friday or so. We ride in a lot of mud, so pods are out for me. Thanks again.
  23. Anyone?
  24. Hi Guys. Im new to the banshee game ( This is my first post  ), I bought my first one on tuesday. 1. Ive got a 2001 Banshee with a RD 350 motor in it. Compression on the motor seems good (7 bar), and starts first kick. The bike has Fmf gold series pipes. The bike seems very lazy on pull away, but from about half throttle it pulls like a beast- the power band is very distinctive. Currently main jets are 210's. Elevation is 5000 ft and temp ranges from 20 to 35 decrees Celsius. What do you guys suggest in terms of jetting? If I rem correctly the plugs are very black, but Ive only ridden around the block twice. I will need to replace the air filter, air box has 2 or 3 holes in the top. 2. Whats should the jetting be on my friends stock banshee. Only has Toomey T5's. Same elevation and climate. 3. What are the float levels on the carbs supposed to be? The one cylinder runs very nicely, float level is about 14mm, the other one seems a mm or 2 higher and it doesn't run as nicely, at least I got it running. Any suggestions concerning jetting? My bike is currently being rebuilt, im planning to be done next week sometime though. Thanks guys!!
